GazetteOnline.com : Orange Bowl final -- Video Version

Ha! Love Clayborn's comment on if it felt intimidating going against GT's offense. "Not really. We play a different style defense than the ACC or SEC. We play hard-nose." That was a defense that was ready, and it showed. Loved watching them work and know their assignments. You could tell it was frustrating GT's offense. Great job covering the team this year, Marc! (Same goes for Mike and Scott)

Man, do wish Three Floyds would extend their distribution to Iowa or beyond. I know I've mention this to you before, but I really enjoy their Gumball Head. Just a fine wheat beer. Another I've really enjoyed lately was the New Belgium Seasonal, Hoptober. I don't think I'm was the only one either as just about every time I'd go out looking for a 6-pack, there would be an empty spot on the shelf where Hoptober used to be. Very tasty. Hope they put more out next October. Love these lists, Marc. Keep 'em coming!

GazetteOnline.com : Last call -- Ohio State (with BCS rank -- No. 13)

Overall, I was just impressed with the effort. We were up against a lot in that matchup, but the Hawks stepped up to the challenge and gave themselves a chance. One thing is certain in my opinion; we DID NOT lose that game because of an inexperienced QB. We lost because, in the end, OSU's D made the bigger plays. There's a lot to look forward to going into the Minny matchup. Speaking of the Gophers, the Hawks should have plenty of built up frustration to take out on them after the last couple weeks. Let's see if we can have a repeat performance of last year's game, and keep Brewster's hands off the pig for one more year.

GazetteOnline.com : Your Ohio State two deeps

Nice! The Gene Kranz clip is perfect. I think a lot of people have considered the hawks out of it after last Saturday. This is a team that's made a living this season of playing against adversity. What has already been a great season would become even sweeter if we can overcome this latest hiccup, in a stadium Ferentz has never won in, on national tv, for the b10 title. If we win we've earned it, if not, well it's been a great season regardless.

I couldn't help but notice the Death Star pictured above has yet to be destroyed. I like where this metaphor is going. Hopefully on Sunday you can post the "after" photo of the Death Star. The good news is, we are playing for at least a share of the Big Ten Title on Saturday. We don't have to rely on anyone else to lose. We just need to win. That's a pretty good spot to be in.

You never mentioned how the SI cover jinx factors in here. Is it still unlucky if it's only a regional cover, or just KIND OF unlucky and we end up in another nail-biter, only to survive in the final seconds? I'm expecting another tough one regardless. Northwestern would love nothing more than to end our undefeated season. We need to put it all together this weekend.

GazetteOnline.com : Coaching "legend" says Hawkeyes lack speed, athleticism

I'd rather win ugly, then lose with style. The thing I can't understand, is why the national media thinks that USC's loss to UW is more impressive than Iowa's escape against UNI and ark st. At the end of the day, Iowa won. Did what they had to do to win. Time will tell I guess. Still a lot of football left. If we don't beat Indiana this weekend, this is an argument we lose. Personally, I like this underdog card we've been dealt.

GazetteOnline.com : Paying the toll

Bad news for dace. The two week return sounds awfully optimistic with a break. Hopefully he at least get's back for the bowl game. Whatever the case; him making it back from from the knee issues after being told, "that's it", is a heck of an accomplishment. This was a physical game. I think most of us were expecting it to be. Glad none of the injuries were too severe. Especially after seeing both Greenwood, and Sandeman go down. You hate seeing players go down like that. Doesn't matter if it's your guys, or the other guys. What's the RB situation shaking out to be in the event Robinson isn't ready to go next week? Is Paki still in the mix? Brinson still recovering? I'd hate for them to have to burn Roger's red shirt. Wouldn't that leave us with 5 soph RBs next year?

We're bowl eligible. Now it's a matter of playing for bowl quality from here on out with each victory. What's a win over Wisconsin make us, Alamo Bowl eligible? A nice position to be in halfway through the season.

GazetteOnline.com : Partying like 2004

The '04 season was definitely the more hard fought of the two championship seasons, but I do remember having a pretty slow start in '02 as well. We had absolutely no business winning that purdue game. The PSU game that year started off great, but I still to this day can't figure out how they came back and forced OT. It would be nice if the latter half of this season were to end in bang the way '02 did. They've got a lot more work to do to get there. Need to beat Michigan first.

Agree 100%. That OSU team didn't win pretty, but they won. OSU fans can't complain when they got the co-B10 title and the national title to show for it. I imagine they were pretty pleased with the result. For the sake of our RBs, I hope this season has as little to do with 2004 as it can.

According to ESPN's little "Top 25 Overview" recap, "IT WAS OVER WHEN...Iowa safety Tyler Sash made his fifth interception of the season in the third quarter, and the Hawkeyes scored on their next drive to go up 21-7." Uh...they obviously weren't watching. Might explain why we moved up in the polls. I'll take it though. On to Michigan.

That game was a little more stressful than it needed to be. I'll give Arkansas State some credit, they do have some talented players on that team, but common hawks, put 'em away. You let teams hang around like that or your asking for trouble. Seems to me like maybe a little Mich game foresight going on, but who knows, they did look great at times, stale at others. Some positives regardless and definitely things to learn from. Lowe did look rough at times, but he'll get it. He'll be better next week, the week after, and so on. Good to get him that experience early, however, it would be nice to get Prater back(obviously). Definitely a game to get the heart pumping a bit. Got the win, and a win is a win.
