A list is a dangerous thing. It's really easy to lose sight of what's really important in a partner, which is a connection, plain and simple. When you set a standard (and a moderately unrealistic one at that,) you lose the opportunity to be surprised and smitten.

I agree 100% with Beth on this one.

My dad was a high school English teacher for 30 years. He knew that teenagers were assholes before becoming a teacher, and he did it any way. He may have had delusions about changing lives and making the world a better place, and that's what made him a good teacher. He vented to his wife and his friends about job frustrations but he never publicly said anything that would damage his credibility as an educator.

Obviously, this woman doesn't have the common sense required to be a positive influence in these kids' lives. Maybe she should find a different career.
