the thing about wheat bread, rice & noodle is the carbo & sugar content they have, if not processed by the body, the by-products are as harmful and go on to become uric acid, which is what we, as gout sufferers are trying to reduce. moderation is key.

if you stand too long, even with low uric acid levels, your foot will naturally swell. if you already have a prior case of gout, the two will combine to cause pain.

it would be good if you can actually specify clearly what you mean by spamming. From what im doing, i am clearly promoting other blogs which either discusses suffering from gout or working on the low purine diet. it does help to be specific. i certainly know for sure that i don't go around spamming my own site.

mhisham.org : Foods highest in purine - AVOID

Hi there Scarlett,

I am glad you shared with me the link. I believe if you read your link properly, no where was it indicated that beancurd is OK. All it says is that, beancurd and by relation, vegetable-based protein food which has high purine contents, do not contribute to the development of uric acid development, compared to meat-based diet.

In our present world context, we have a rich source of food to take out nutrition from. While I will not claim to be an expert on nutrition, as a gout sufferer myself, I can really perceive the effect of consuming soy-based product, compared to a period when I stay away from them. Perhaps, it is mind over matter, perhaps it is not. Studies can be funded, to influence various objectives, specifically vegetarian organisations keen on promoting vegetarian lifestyle, for example. I am not accusing anyone of having such motives, just that, studies remain studies until proven conclusively by the medical community themselves.

I will contact Hyogo College of Medicine directly to find out if there are any follow-ups to this study, so that we can all benefit from the research. A Google search with the following text &quot;<a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=A+Japanese+study+b...target="_blank"><a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=A+Japanese+study+b...only" target="_blank">http://www.google.com/search?q=A+Japanese+study+b...onlyresulted in 2 entries, and was not corroborated by anyone else, as such, I do not put much emphasis on that study, pending response from the school.

I thank you again for your feedback as we strive to be healthier. A key component of my website is moderation in everything I do and consume. Yes I love soy bean products and would really want to enjoy eating my next cup of tofu! :)

cheers,

Sham

It is with that in mind that i set up this site. So that friends will be aware of what actually is affecting me, such that they need not worry so much. It's gonna be with me for a long time, and as long as I educate you, on why it affects me, then it will hopefully eradicate this affliction.

Hey Paris. Thanks for your well-wishes. Yes, I am always on the lookout for newer approaches. But I do keep in mind that the basis of most treatments do involve some form of basic & essential diet management. :)
