The Commission should be, first and foremost, seeking clear, definitive and legally binding documentation about who owns the building, not just an opinion as an afterthought. Ownership has been one well-known foundational problem with that commission for some time, muddying their perceived role and providing the public reason aplenty to question their actions. Get that matter settled, publicly and on paper, and there would be no need to draft MOUs and other such documents.

From what I gather from quickly scanning it: - 10 years is the probationary length for registration - any recurrences during that period restart the clock - otherwise, the registration requirement lapses at the 10 year point.

His statement was just a nod to the Hawkeyes being the only Iowa-based team that is on the national ranking radar. ISU doesn't have to deal with being constantly hounded and queried about the legitimacy of a national ranking. If AC's words are manufactured into a 2010 battle cry for ISU fans, whatever - it would just come off as an ineffective and desperate grab for motivation. It will get settled on September 11th between the lines at Kinnick and it will come down to talent, discipline and execution, not a vague statement from a locker room video.

Yes, the experiment would be costly and quite disruptive. Throw in all the traffic signals (not mentioned), road signs (not mentioned), possible impact on bus routes/stops (not mentioned), decisions about keeping or eliminating on-street parking on 2nd and 3rd (not mentioned), adjustments to snow removal (not mentioned; 10th Ave is a snow route - not an issue now, but winter comes every year), impact on ingress routes to hospitals (not mentioned), and many other important items beyond a layman's knowledge and, yes, the concept gets complicated - no matter whether it is an experiment or not. I believe that Mr. Maxted knew quite well what it was he was proposing. Well done, Mr. Maxted.

Having John as "The Voice of the Kernels" is so much more than just the broadcasts - he and the Kernels are a huge blessing to the city of Cedar Rapids. His involvement with schools, reading programs, youth baseball and so many more things is way beyond the scope of just calling the game. If one of those community-building activities needs to give, I'm certain John will be instrumental and successful in finding and mentoring whomever steps in to fill that void.
