Ludwig von Mises Institute : Four Centuries of Surveillance: From Privy Councils to FISA Courts - Joey Clark - Mises Daily

While technology may not be a need in the sense of water and air pressure, there is overwhelming evidence that information gathering confers vast benefits to both commercial and government interests. Suppose we atomized established bureaucracy, and conditioned the development of such infrastructure on the benefit that would accrue on an individual-by-individual basis. Why wouldn't individuals benefit hugely from such powers? The problem with this technology isn't the lack of benefits, it is the assymmetry of the information flows. Many people stand to gain from such data. The more rigidly it is kept secret - for our safety of course - the more danger is poses and less benefits it confers.

Ludwig von Mises Institute : Capitalism as Epic Rap Battle - Mike Reid - Mises Daily

Dangerous materials. Almost frightening how far ahead in the engagement of the past this is. Sophisticated, well read, irreverent and inevitable. Seen it's likeness, never seen such implementation. Embarrassingly evident background activity is going on behind the scenes. I'm curious as to what's going on here. What's behind it? Very sensitive in4mation implicit. Note to self: ready the hemlock.

I am dumbstruck. What a shocking reminder of all of our mortality. but the timing... That is too, too too bad. I had no idea this happened. I hope others carry on his work.

Big Government : Report: Stronger Principals, Weaker Administrators Key to Saving Indianapolis Public Schools

Likely this area has an administrative problem. However, having been a student once, having paid attention in class, I wonder if it's politically incorrect to suggest that maybe the students are also at fault? Now I hate to get in the way of your politicking, but it may very well be that these are little bastards are a real handful. After all, there's bound to be some variance. In any case, I've seen better and worse educational institutions. But I have see the same of classrooms. Breitbart.com amongst them.

Big Peace : America Sinks in Economic Freedom Rankings: Now Surpassed by Australia, Canada, New Zealand

They are allowed. I don't think Ron Paul is correct in his strategic assessment of America's position. However, his candidacy is worth it's weight in gold due to offering an alternative to the very costly busybody model of governance which, evidence has shown, Republicans are only slightly less effective at imposing and which they embrace with no less zeal.

Man you Americans are definitely winning the Zinger war. Ha ha, I have been really worried about the Islamist-related geopolitical problems. I'm really enjoying a good laugh at the numerous good ones in this thread. Just a shame the mad mullahs don't share your sense of humor.
Well, from what I understand, Israel did at least tolerate Hamas, so long as they engaged in the deception that their main opponent was Fatah, and not Israel. However, Ron is engaging in rather more than misleading exaggeration when he says this, because his own policies would entail that the USA would similarly tolerate virtually all terrorist organizations that are not directly acting on their own soil at a given time. However, I am amused by the viciousness and desperation of the opposition to Ron Paul. I really wish another 8 years of Robamney on the republic you serve by dint of calumny. I despise the liars that many of you have made yourselves out to be, in an effort to stop a Man who you can effectively oppose without lying, or acting like buffoons as we see throughout this website.

Big Journalism : Thursday Crib Sheet: Ron Paul Ends Interview Over Newsletters, NYT Exec Exits

I thought I was inured to politics, but I keep being shocked at the degree of tacit collusion evident in the behavior of the media with respect to candidates like ron paul. Canadian national newspapers are running these same points as is fox news, and the National Review. The republican establishment doesn't appear to be coping well with Ron Paul, and they are taking out the long knives. I'm increasingly being driven away from politics, because the whole system appears to have little vested in honesty, moral integrity, mental clarity or long term efficacy. Where can wisdom be found?

Well, isn't it fair to suggest that Bachmann is against Islamicist ideology? I don't think that's such a heinous thing myself. I also don't think it's totally untrue. As far as this 20 year old newsletter, I haven't seen the material, but given the perfunctory judgement of racism that gets thrown around, I would tend to give Ron Paul the benefit of the doubt. He has explicitly repudiated judging people based upon race. As it happens, I believe him. When it comes to someone like you whose behavior illustrates the tendency to prejudicial remarks. You who appear eager to throw sweeping accusations against people you don't know, leaping to conclusions about their Character and so on. I don't believe in the sincerity of your denunciations of bigots. You have a political ax to grind, for whatever reason, and are not interested in the truth. I am still interested in the truth. That's why I increasingly dislike the approach to politics that uses smear campaigns against those whom argument is insufficient to crush.

Breitbart.tv : Lieberman vs. Huffington: 'I Don't Think You've Read It, Sweetheart'

Drip scorn for your enemies to drive them away. Make many irrelevant assertions that partisans who agree with you will accept unquestioningly, but which opponents will feel the need to challenge. Thus it becomes more cognitively and emotionally taxing to disagree. This is a basic rhetorical tactical arrangement, used by both the left and the right. Recognize it when you see it, whether you agree with the use or not.
