KOMO - Seattle, WA : WSP begins aggressive anti-speeding program | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Brea

Actually, they are not set because of road conditions. At least freeway speeds. Just like drinking age, the federal government passed a law that certain road monies would not be given to a state if they did not have a certain speed limits for certain roads. Montana is a great example of how they had to change their rules. Reckless and excessive aggressive driving is more dangerous than 10 over speed limit and cruising along.

Usually the family then is responsible for the cost of the life. Depending on the pledge, it can put a family in debt to a company for the rest of someone's life because they do the math at what the cost of that life would be for the company. The company gets free labor.

It's too bad people don't have more common sense like we do. I love the arguments about deep boring not being in the muck when they fail to realize that the type of dirt (even deep boring) and where it will be located will still be in a dangerous liquefied zone. Sky train in Van is where it is at, but people don't want to have any more inconvenience above ground for better results in the end!

There is a lawsuit that was won and the state appealed because they do not want to make the hard choices to cut other services or create an income tax on their own accords (which they can do!) It is called the News Lawsuit. Will be heard before the State Supreme Court this month!

Sorry dude. The supposed 'illegal' issue you mention is pennies on the dollar and don't really amount to any significant amount of money. Plus, not everyone agrees with your stance on immigration. I believe anyone who wants to be here can be a citizen without any silly tests. We don't make our children take a test at a certain age to maintain citizenship. Why should we make others if we really are the land of the free! Don't believe the propaganda. Freedom is free!

Unfortunately, Rossi was not any better than Gregiore. She was the best of 2 evils. Rossi campaigned on screwing teachers and said he had no respect for people in the profession. Sorry, why vote for someone who will hurt you worse. Look at WI. Also, the books issue and electronic versions and such are great ideas, but not as easy as you lay them out to be. What of families that do not have access to the electronic content? There are at least 10-30% in each district if not more. Electronic content is also pretty expensive. Instead of paying for a $80 book, you pay $60 for online content access (the legal way folks)!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Marysville schools facing huge mid-year budget shortfall | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking N

Actually, the Becca bill and lawsuits by her "parents" resulted in the state being responsible for a student the moment he/she walks out the door to the school and until the students hits the "parents" property. Sad to say. I would also like to point out that I know there are tons of non-computer science folks at Microsoft. That is the cost of doing business. You want tests, you want data, you want to track students, you want schools responsible in a parent like way for kids and take parents to court, that all costs man power even with technology.

Actually, the state lost a court case saying that they were not funding education like WA state constitution says (its paramount duty to fund public education). Now it is on appeal at the state supreme court level, but as far as I am concerned, every time someone in Olympia proposes or votes to cut education, they are contempt of court.

Another thought too... Everyone who is smart enough in other countries get a good education. We are the only country that says EVERYONE has a right to a free and public education. Other countries have tests along the way and weed out students who aren't smart enough, have no motivation, or funnel folks into areas based on need. We either still believe everyone has a right to public education and fund it. Or we change our philosophies. We can't have it both ways in the current funding situations.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Lawmakers gather in special session to slash budget | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News |

Actually, you fund education first. In our state constitution the only budget requirement for the state is education. It is the state's "paramount duty to fund public education." State actually lost a lawsuit they are now appealing. So there should be zero cuts to education at this point. All those legislators who voted yes for cutting education are law breakers.

Jet, don't be rude. Do you know how many years it took me to do that? 6 years to save up and I did the trip for under $2000. About $1800 to be exact. Air fare, hotel, food and expenses. When you are poor, you lean to get a good deal. hmmm what else do you want to know. I shop at value village and goodwill. I don't pop out babies needlessly, live in a grand apartment or have a fancy car. Do I sound annoyed? You bet. You are making assumptions that are hurtful.

No one is over paying me 26triode. I have nothing to do with grocery business what-so-ever (except I use stores when I can't buy stuff at farmer's markets). So I am not caring about myself. I just know some business, politics, and history. I am not self-absorbed! I just know that the corporate people are trying to say they are hurting and can't pay these employees livable wages and benefits and that is not so. They are getting more business, so that can't be an excuse.

Not in all cases, but many cases, a teacher can not get a job in Western Washington without a master's degree. I went to a very top notch program right after my BAs (yes plural). over 50% of our time was in different classrooms, we had to do research, ect. It was a very good program and I can say actually helped me be a little bit better when I started in my classroom. I paid a whole lot of money for that. So now, I pay more in student loans each month than rent. I will never be able to buy a condo or house in Seattle. I am ok with that, but get upset when people insinuate many things they don't know.

Because if we did a model based on how much parents valued their children's educations, many would not get paid. That is the point. The number 1 factor in student success is how much value a parent puts on education. It is not skill level. But parents and American society would rather sit back and blame the teachers.

in magical land. We are technically salary so in WA state that means a person could be expected to work 45 hours a week. Ha. I work close to 60 or more. Even when I worked at the Science Center and hourly I had to work through lunches and that was still illegal and nothing could be done. And even if teachers banded together and only worked what we were paid for, you all would come back and call us lazy no good teacher. Lose lose situation for us.

You are forgetting that list includes monies for medical, dental, life insurance, ect. That is money the teacher never sees in his or her hand. For example, you may have a microsoftie who gets gross pay of $100000 a year, but when you include the money the company pays for insurance, maybe a bus pass, the private commuter bus that goes around the region the employee pay actually looks like $150,000 to $200,000. Spinning of numbers. Education takes money. People want something for nothing and if cuts keep happening. That won't even be there!
