Pitiful when a murderer understands more about right and wrong than a second term Governor. What a pitiful choice some voters made.

KATU - Portland, OR : After strong storm, colder air, rain/snow mix expected in valley | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Por

In Oregon, snow falls in a thin layer, but is described as piles up. At least the last storm was really something of a storm. Because so often, the weather report forecasts "storm" when 1/2 inch of rain and little 30mph gusts are predicted.

KATU - Portland, OR : Website accused of allowing pimps to sell kids into prostitution | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Por

Actually, I did not even know of that website until KATU made it a headline. Crime existed before websites. And at least adult prostitution is legal out of state. So removing the website or that part of the website will probably not solve the problem. But KATU and other news helping to advertise sure doesn't seem to slow things down much. Could it be the justice system is too slow, or that the penalties are to lax? Should penalties become severe? And how severe?

You mentioned "BS". That gets me thinking of the scout. What was the reported comment he made? Quote: "Any highway in Oregon, I can get a permit in five days or less to do whatever I want," Seriously? Any highway? Whatever he wants? I defy the scout to get a permit for Highway 99 through the midst of Tigard near Costco, over to King City, in 5 days, to do whatever he wants. How about Hy. 26 to the Oregon Coast in July, on the spur of the moment, to do whatever he wants? In 5 days or less?

Failure of a scout to do their job if the information is right. If the scout was repeatedly failing to answer questions and supply answers for an extended period of time, does not the problem fall on that scout? Even if it was a private ranch, and I owned it, I'd want to know some details about their preparation, planning and research before they drove vehicles on snow covered roads. Especially if other people were in the area. What would it take -- 2 minutes - for the scout to write "we've got 6 people for traffic control, 8 spotters, X number of traffic cones and signs, and an emergency plan, etc.? The Forest Service could have compounded this. But if the report is true, the scout alone could have single-handed messed things up, and is trying to save face with Mercedes.

I went to 5 parks the past week - do I have 5 victories? - lol My reply was prompted by the first reply to this article. I did go to 5 parks. And I see no victory stemming from that. But I do think that Occupy by making a victory statement like that, reminds me of a drowning person gasping for air in an attempt to survive. But if they can do anything new to communicate that is legal, clean, organized and does not cost us money, I'll give them credit for that if it happens.

Fun ... a question with a possible low risk of thumbs down :-) When installing lawns, the compaction with rollers is really a compression of recently cultivated soil. It's more of a firming than a compaction. It's a firming of a loose surface rather than a re-alignment and compacting of microscopic soil particles. If you are merely rolling soil that is not muddy, you can roll the roller within a couple of feet. Although, it's best to avoid mangling the roots with a rototiller. For a 15' high Rhody, I suppose you could come within 3 feet if need be. Try to come back and make clean cuts on the end of mangled roots over 3/4" diameter using pruners or something sharp. Technically, Rhodies are trees. Rhododendron = "Rose Tree". Adding extra soil above previous grade is not good for trees. So when working around preexisting trees or huge shrubs, try to rake the soil so that maybe a 1/2" or less soil is added over the root system. May be able to get away with an inch on just one side only. Tree care is my favorite, but I still do lawn installs. Most of the time, I just fill up the roller 1/2 way with water rather than topping off the drum. 1/2 full seems sufficient. Also, trying to push a full roller seems to cause bigger or more gnarly footprints due to the force needed to push. Depends on where and how someone is starting their momentum and the slope. I worked at 5 local golf courses and country clubs, including Columbia Edgewater. So the lawn thing is still stuck in my head. When using a roller, keep in mind that it's putting less PSI than you or me walking. Me anyway. Consider my full 250 lbs. landing on the toe of one foot. Then the 250 to 300 pounds of water in a roller evenly spread over a contact area 10 times bigger than a man's step.

By trade, I am an Arborist and Landscape Tech. My estimate was $100,000 for soil and landscape repair alone. The reason the city may have spent less, was they did not actually completely remedy the full damage of compaction. That estimate would include hauling, traffic control, labor and irrigation to establish new grass, etc., etc.. The City did not call me, but emailed their estimate of like $25K, and asked me my thoughts when I introduced the compaction issue. I drove down on the last day when tents were removed because it was the only day that one could take soil samples. When I replied, the City already realized damage was greater and likely $50K or higher. To really reverse the damage, would mean replacement of the top inch of soil. Due to trees having roots in the top layer of soil, that would mean air spade, and teams using hand tools. Then new soil, complete sodding or seeding. A news reporter asked about damage to tree bark. They were surprised bark damage was probably inconsequential. The problem with occupy, was the high concentration of foot traffic on wet soil at a time of year when people walk on wet ground less. Water lubricates, and wet soil particles compact easily.

Stay Out !! ...so says the sign to the law abiding. There is a message here now. Before, Sam Adams and others let the violaters, the occupiers, stay in the parks. But now the law abiding are told to stay out. Obviously the parks need repair. But there is still a message and lesson here. I believe it's tied to a certain kind of liberal mentality that corrodes our country like termites.

@32jim2 ... Considering Romney has paid millions, and still pays millions in taxes in our borders, he does 100 times more for our government and economy than about 50% of the people in the US each year. And it sounds like the money off shore is not immune from taxes. It sounds like those funds share similarity to IRAs in that someday, he would have to pay tax anyway. Do you have a gripe against people with IRAs, because your comment denotes so. Romney has also paid taxes on a lot of his money that was invested to cause a further 15% tax. Sounds to me like Romney writes a lot of big checks.
