Oh, and I truly hope $28-40/month isn't going to put that Wolk guy out of business. That's totally crazy. What is that, like, the equivalent of 3/4 of a donut per employee per month? Yikes!!

Although the man with the gun got away, I'm actually grateful a Wild West shootout didn't suddenly occur, since my kid goes to the daycare directly adjacent to the parking structure. For some reason, flying bullets and small children on swings don't mesh well in my silly liberal mind. Stupid me!

Taxation without representation?? Um, so, like, the thousands of cars that head south on I-5 every morning, and back north again at night, taking advantage of Oregon's employment opportunities and roadways and polluting my air along I-5 -- that's not representation? I think what you meant to say is, "sounds like [having to pay my fair share of some of those Oregon public services I use but currently avoid paying taxes for by living in Washington]." I think all you free-loading tax evaders should all be tolled - tolled to the extent that you would WISH you had a light rail to ride to work.

Just to play devils advocate...

So does that mean when your 5-year old learns how to ride a bike, he or she will have to pay a license for the damage being done to the roads? Likewise the family out for the Saturday ride? And how much do you think the bike insurance for your three middle school kids will be? Probably a lot, considering they're young and likely a high crash risk...

In other words, none of these ideas are particularly feasible (or probably desirable, once it's your Sunday outing that's affected, and not my commute to work).

As for parking - why isn't the media story "the creation of bike corrals downtown opens up an extra 14 parking spaces for every 16 bikes that use the corrals!"? This idea has the potential to give drivers MORE parking, not less, if it encourages some drivers to switch to bikes!
