Leadership, Technology, Innovation : What evangelism can learn from social media

Thanks Brian. When I think about teaching/training on evangelism in our ministry, we need to start with some principles about listen first, talk second in everything we teach.

Brianvirtue.org : Conferences Or Christ?

Hey Brian, great post. I think our national team is thinking about this. I vented on my blog about this a while ago and Russ Martin posted this link to Trey Lewis http://treylewis.wordpress.com/2009/08/29/video-c...

Leadership, Technology, Innovation : The future according to John Chambers

Russ Martin shared this video on his blog. Your thoughts about communication are intriguing. Just in the last few days I'm realizing that we as staff of this huge organization need to grow in communication with each other. Right now I'm mostly concerned about communication across our region. There is not enough connection to create momentum in anything specific region wide....or at least there is lots of room for growth. I also think there is a general fear in our organization of the messiness related to collaboration in our ministry. Command and Control is easier and cleaner. I think this could be remedied by gaining traction on developing some sort of process to keep us from getting all willy-nilly. To many thoughts running through my head at the moment. Speed and scale! John Chamber for President 2012

Leadership, Technology, Innovation : "Clear as mud" (Cowtown to Urban Hipster #4)

Yes, the right leaders, going in the same direction. Not taking advantage of an opportunity until the right leader is in place. I think the question this raises in my mind is how do you paint a picture of a "successful spiritual movement" for people if they've never seen it? I've got some ideas but what are the best ways to do that?

Hey Chris, thanks for your comment. I think realistically a campus group should have all 3. Here's what I've found each do best...for the most part ( there is some overlap for sure). Website = connection with those that search for you online. We also use it to help us be spokespeople to the community/partnerships/financial donors. We can always point people to it for basic information. Facebook group = get information out quickly and to a specified group of people. 1-to-many conversation. Facebook fanpage = lot's of people talking to lot's of people about your group. Great way to grow momentum and positive perception of your group.

Leadership, Technology, Innovation : "Seek the Shalom" (Cowtown to Urban Hipster #3)

I agree totally. I'm thinking I want our family to be more principle driven than even specific location driven. I want our family to be about caring for people and engaging with people (not just students) wherever we're at. I also agree with putting yourself in a position where your family can thrive. The question that we wrestle with is what are the things that are really gonna make us thrive? Some of it we won't know untill we try. There are lots of variable to the equation.

Leadership, Technology, Innovation : "That Great City" (Cowtown to Urban Hipster #2)

Yes, fear of the unknown is a reality...still is for me and my family. But the I also know that by putting myself in position for God to show up, even though it's a little risky has led to the greatest growth in my life and most joyous experiences of the beauty of the Gospel. I don't want to be affirmed all the time, I want to be challenged (most of the time) and deeply reliant on the Holy Spirit to use me and direct my steps.

Thanks Hannah! What city are you moving to? I appreciate your thoughts about getting the 'right' students to lead and recognizing that not everyone is going to be a part of your ministry. There is still the question of partnerships (particularly church partnerships)...how do you structure them? When do you say yes to a partnership and when do you say no. I need to hear from someone who has more experience than me in partnering with other ministries. Stay tuned...you can learn from our mistakes! :)

I'm still learning what the reputation of Campus Crusade is here in the city. As I talk with people, it's actually exceeded my expectations in quality. There are definitely people that want us here , so I don't want to give you the wrong idea. I think there are a number of things that have been hard in the past and a lot of things that have contributed to that, but we're moving ahead and are dreaming about having healthy, active partnerships in the city that expand the kingdom of God. Thanks for your insight with authenticity and relevancy. I think you're right on point. Maybe you should come join our staff team! :)

Leadership, Technology, Innovation : 3 reasons why Twitter has almost peaked

You're right about facebook co-opting all the key features....those facebook people are smart. I definitely don't think Twitter is going away, but I think it's still trying to find it's main usefulness. But maybe that's what's cool about Twitter is that you can use it for so many different things. The thing I love about twitter is the ability to give me info and for me to post info. With a killer 3rd party app like Tweetie or Tweetdeck it so stinking easy to attach a link or picture, and it's so easy to search for things and engage others in conversation. And hashtags at conferences or about certain topics are not going away. The bigger question in my mind is how much effort should our staff give to leveraging these tools for the Kingdom of God?

I'm in the midst of launching a brand new campus ministry in Portland, Oregon. I'd use them to connect with various church and business leaders, volunteers, alumni and faculty around the city as we develop partnerships to in order to make Jesus Christ known amongst the 100K students in the area.
