I have no idea. One possible fix is to just rejailbreak it, another, to use backgrounder and always run your text app in the background.

As far as I know, you cannot update without updating your baseband. Possibly, you can get a custom firmware file that upgrades to 3.1.2 w/o baseband, but I don't know about it.

It's all straightforward. No additional steps needed. Just update iTunes. If it says anything about updating iPhone firmware though, naturally, say no.

As long as you don't replace any firmware files on your iPhone, it should be fine.

Yes, but i would recommend JBing with blackra1n because I have an iTouch 2g as well, and I jailbroke it with Blackra1n on 3.1.2 and it works well. If you do want to downgrade, put your iTouch into DFU or Restore Mode, doesn't matter, then click Shift/Option+Restore in iTunes and select the 3.0 firmware for iTouch 2g you can get from Google.

Yes, you can just download the iPhone 2g 3.0 Firmware from a website. Just search iPhone 2g 3.0 Firmware ipsw in google. Then, in iTunes, Shift+Restore and select the 3.0 Firmware. Then load your backup of 1.1.4.

Well, if you did not hold the power button all the way for 30 seconds, even though the screen changed, that may be a problem.

Yes. Upgrade to 3.1.2 FW and use blackra1n. No worries, completely normal JB unless you are on a iTouch 3g.

Redsn0w does not work with that FW right now. Upgrade all the way to 3.1.2 FW and then use the program Blackra1n to JB it. If you are on a iPhone though, you will not be able to unlock, and iTouch 3g is tethered.

Well, if you update, it becomes unJBed but it still has all files. Just reJB it with any JB program and reinstall core files such as terminal, winterboard, and lockdown and it will have your themes and everything there. Though for winterboard you have to SSH into you iPhone and change the old theme's folder to the new theme's folder name becuase winterboard creates a new folder everytime and uses the new one. Themes folder= private>var>stash>you will see 2 folders names' beginning with "Theme".
