Daily Camera.com: : Sally Schneider: Actually, a majority oppose Folsom Street changes - Boulder Daily Camera

Sally, your argument is sound that the majority should rule and is exactly why voters should not pass the Livable Boulder initiative like the Neighborhood Right to Vote. Would all Boulder voters who arguably have equal access to Folsom and all public rights of way want a "special class" of riparian voters (those along Folsom only or in the "neighborhood") to be able to control whether Folsom has a bike lane or not? With the NRTV initiative, that is exactly what would happen. Ask Pomerance and he'll lie to you, just the way he did at the debate about protecting affordable housing from Development Pays it Own Way.

Yes, I for one am grateful that Trump is giving us a view into what's on his mind and not concealing his idiocy. Two requirements for the job -- no matter your politics -- are discretion and judgment. Trump's comments demonstrate neither. Adios.

Unless the role of the government in this case is to protect people's rights to equal opportunity for housing. If you are interested in inequality in the community, you might be in favor of this referendum. Like, good news for people who like bad news.

I wonder how many people signed this due to the canvasser simply saying "let's give the neighborhoods more voice!" I wonder how many people would have signed this if they understood the real motives of the people behind this? It's not about growth, it's about homogenizing Boulder, marginalizing minorities, and making Boulder exclusive and ritzy. By the way, Aspen just passed one of these. That's all you really need to know. But, if you want to know more, know that this will probably be found to be unconstitutional under the recent Supreme Court ruling. Boulder's zoning already creates a "disparate impact" against those protected by the Fair Housing Act. Put this "BOULDER HOA REFERENDUM" on top of that and, guess what? We've been tricked into a land use review process that systemically discriminates and segregates this city. If you signed this petition, you should feel modest shame. Now that you've been warned of what it really does, you can choose accordingly at voting time.

The leading cause of traumatic brain injuries are auto accidents. 294,000 per year.
This is the joke (JokePott) of the Livable Boulder claim -- it's all expense and no benefit. You should be so lucky that people want to live here, patronize businesses, add to the local culture, earn a degree, better their lives. No acknowledgement that the next person who moves here may just be your next customer, great neighbor, life partner, friend, etc...that's worth a little water, traffic, and god forbid have to look at them. You all sound ridiculous and I don't buy the cost argument for a second.

There are many places with more than 100,000 people that have excellent quality of life. Why are you so focused on that number? Would my "quality of life" improve with 80,000 people? Tell me about that? My life is enriched by those around me, whether I see them on the trail or the Safeway parking lot. Maybe that is not the case for the Livable Boulder folks.

That is false. High Mar was a private swim club and BHP (which is not the City, it is a corporation) purchased it in a market transaction. Did the Martin Acres "Neighborhood Group" cook up that supposed history? Try again. I am still waiting fro someone to name a policy that got forced on a neighborhood.
Can you please name 1 initiative that the City forced on a neighborhood that is housing related? Newlands got compatible development. Uni Hill got occupancy limits. Goss Grove got downzoned and killed Robb's Music. Martin Acres got Baseline Zero killed. Washington School neighborhood got a park for themselves. Maxwell neighborhood got Trailhead (a customized solution to decrease potential traffic impacts). All fine by me, but it seems like all neighborhoods have gotten exactly what they wanted and on cue!

Housing Boulder is a series of meetings designed to actually ask people what their housing needs are and how to try and accommodate them. How is that hype? Tonight was the first meeting at the Presbyterian Church yet you penned this some days ago? How can you say that these constructive and democratic engagements aren't progress for our community and those who are working towards solutions (not just peddling dogma and shallow cynicism)? Steve, what's the math on developers "paying their own way'? And, last I checked, developers are not the users of infrastructure, schools and roads -- their customers are the users, just as you were one when you bought your first house here. Did you Steve "pay your way" when you decided to relocate to Boulder? Or does that just apply to new residents now that you've entrenched yourself here? Unbelievable hypocrisy. When these ballot measures fail, you should leave town in shame.

The nuance is lost on me. What's not lost on me is the soft bigotry of the proposal itself -- you think an affordable housing project that may primarily house minorities will ever get approved by this elite 10% of hyper-involved citizens that all projects must now "win over"? Goodbye inclusive city, hello Aspen.

Daily Camera.com: : Sally Schneider: Where does growth stop? - Boulder Daily Camera

Sally, if you took the time to read S'PARK's site review submittal earlier this month (which I did), you'd know that the project is about half of what was proposed at the time of Concept Review -- around 300,000sf or so (of which less than 1/3 is commercial so no "2000 new jobs" as you say) compared to the 680,000sf you are quoting. The project also has 31% affordable housing on-site, will build a parking garage for Boulder Junction, will be the state's 1st LEED for Neighborhood Development project, and will also create a "neighborhood center" for the Valmont area which includes Orchard Grove and San Juan del Centro (literally, the poorest neighborhoods in Boulder by census tract that I'm sure you've never taken the time to visit). You should be ashamed for lying in this article to advance whatever agenda you may have. You have, literally, no credibility and the DC should fact-check before publishing. Unfortunately, maybe 10 people will see this posting. This could be a really nice project for Boulder.

And let's not forget the greatest of contradictions our city leaders allow to persist when it comes to housing: that we continue to apply Inclusionary Housing taxes to permanently affordable housing. This is unconscionable. A terrible idea to begin with when the IH program was instituted and insulting that it continues today. That's right, if you want to build affordable housing, you owe the city another 20% in...umm...affordable housing units or Cash In Lieu. Makes your head spin. Tax what you don't want, subsidize what you do want. Policy 101. So, why again, do we place this burdensome tax on our most vulnerable residents?
