This is a very interesting question. I did notice this also happening in class. When you are whit eI think that ow are put up to a double standard which I don't think is appropriate at all but unfornatley. I dpnt think this is acceptable at all though. When people were making those comment I think that black people feel entitled to say what they want because they feel that we are held back in todays standards of society. Yes even though statistically speaking this may be true this does not make them any better and they should not be entitled to say what ever they want without getting backlash as well. I feel like so many people think this way not even if they are black but if they are gay, muslim, or any other group that is discriminated in todays life. Yes this is rough and the relaity of things but spreading that hate does not make it any better. People go thorugh rough times everyday but if they thought about the event that happened to them fighting back or doing action like saying negative things about white people will not hep the situation and will most likely end up making is worst. I feel that it is a much stronger stance to not say anything negative at all, acklnoledge who todays world is, and be s truing person breaking down those barriers as the person you are, not with the race you represent. In term of the white people saying negative things they should be ashamed. How do they think its funny white or black to say such things. Hello people it is 2010. We should not drop jokes like these especially in a classroom setting. ITs just rude and makes people feel very uncomfortable wether hey are white or black . Double standards exist everywhere in this world and will always exist in this world. They will orbably never be broken down but if people start to respect eachother one person at a time then eventually one day. I will say that they white people were not more wrong than the people of colro. Its just pure ignorance on both sides. Maybe one day we will learn that being an asshole has nothing to do with race but who you are as a person and people will not be put up to these double standards anymore.

I personally think this is a great question to ask. Being a person who is mixed I always say I am a person of color. I remember in our history classes we had learned of a phrase called the one drop rule which was a term used to keep the white race pure. The one drop rule meant that if you had atlas one drop of black in you , that you were automatically considered a person of color being denied your rights. Now today I think that this is turned around into a positive result where people embrues who they are and that having a mixed make you truly a unique person. I still think today that this applies in our modern day world. I think its something that people should embrues and they shooed be proud to call themselves a person of color. A person who is white is white. If a person is half white and latino i think they would still call themselves a person of color. I don't think that being a brown person doesn't directly correlate to the term black but is acknowledging that you are a person who is more than one race

This video was very disturbing. It’s completely unfair that they can actually do this to innocent families who just want to live the American dream and raise their children, make money and have a happy life! This is a prime example how gay people are made into second class citizen’s everyday for doing absolutely nothing wrong but being good people. They are educated, they have jobs, and they sure do pay the same amount of taxes that straight people do and they can receive benefits and can stay in this country if there partner is not from this country. This just illustrates the ignorance of today’s society. This is also one of the main reasons why gay couple needs to be granted these rights. How can any gay couple not live in fear of things like this of these types of laws not happening? They are unable to fully lived there lives with instability of such laws like these. Gay couples needs their rights granted in stone because it’s absolutely inhumane. If they do not have a solid ground how are these couples supposed to live a stable life. Hopefully immigration will pass a law on this because these rights need to be granted to gay people. If this were to happened to any straight couple law suits would be happening everywhere and ethically this would not be moral in any time of straight household situation. And the sad fact about it that this loving couple has children. That’s what really hit home for me. As a gay man who is on fear of my rights being violated because I’m gay and I have done nothing wrong. Can you imagine if your kids saw you being hand cuffed in front of you and your mother was being taken away on a white van. Can you imagine the mental deprivation that this can have on children who have 2 moms or 2 dads and one of them aren’t from this country? This is shocking and must make them live in some type of fear. It was so sad to see her son cry because he had to witness such a traumatic event. Gay citizens are having there rights violated due to stupid laws like these. There are many straight couples who abuse this law every day. People end up marrying there friend just so they can stay in this country and are you telling me this wholesome family who is raising children and are trying to live there happy life raising there kids cannot exercise the same rights because they are of the same sex. It sad that this is breaking many couples up especially with children up everyday. Change needs to happened soon.

A couple is a couple no matter if it is 2 males, 2 females, or just a straight couple such as a male and a female. I think that there is absolutely no difference between lesbians and gays having children in every relationship I believe especially with parenting that both parents embrace different qualities that make the marriages work and when raising children. I have heard many arguments on the fact that men are not as nurturing as women and do not provide the adequate motherly love that only women can provide in a child. I personally don’t believe in this. If anyone has a child whether its 2 men or 2 women they can both embrace the “motherly” instinct that needs to be provided during parenting. Other things that I have heard about 2 couples raising a child are that there needs to be a feminine influence and a masculine influence that makes the marriage and parenting work. I think this is somewhat true in terms of making a relationship successful but in all types of couples there is always someone who is more passive and more aggressive. Sometimes in a couple they might both embrace both traits that balance off of each other and this I personally think needs to be provided in raising a child. It just makes the child over all well rounded and helps them in the definition of their personality as well. Studies have shown that a child emotionally and mentally turns out the same when being raised by 2 couples of the same sex or a straight couple. They are both able to provide the same amount of care that a child needs when being raised. There is no difference with whether 2 males or 2 females raise a child. It makes no difference.

When I first heard about the movie avatar I had no desire at all to see it. It didn’t seem interesting but when I heard the ranting and raving about the movie and how it was the high grossing movie of all time it sparked my interest. Also another preceding factor for me to view the movie was that the same director of Avatar happened to be the same director of Titanic which happened to be one of my favorite movies of all time. I never go to the movies anymore just because it cost so much and sometimes I feel that they aren’t even worth it but I must say Avatar is the best 10 dollars I have spent in a very long time !!! The graphics were amazing and it’s just one of those movies that you must see in the theater. The story line was a little cliché bit still it was an amazing movie. Now referring to the article that the white man always saves the other race is very true and has proven itself in history over and over again. It’s extremely sad but is how our world functions. With the movement of LGBT people in our country who are fighting for equal rights straight allys as they call them are extremely important because they can convince the other straight people that LGBT people deserve the rights as they do and they will convince other straight people and eventually the more allys they get the more “socially acceptable” this will be and then there you go gay rights are granted. Now we can move back to the civil rights movement in this country. Yes there were many amazing black leaders out there but the united states government was white and it was those white people who were extremely important to the cause. This caused a chain affect of other white people and then people of color were granted equal rights. Let’s go back in time again where women were not granted the right to vote. They rallied and protested but it was the men who made the decision in the government not the women. So it was the women’s job to slowly have men ally’s aiding them in their cause. Once one man acknowledged there difference then another man did. Eventually voting rights were granted to women. Yes protesting and fighting for their rights played a major role but it were the male allies who could go into the system and break the barriers. Now let’s go back to today’s perspective on a not so touchy subject. Fashion in high school is always changing and there is that one person who always takes the risk of wearing a new look. Then you have those cliques in high school who “command respect” and basically do what they want. Well is one person in the clique wants to wear something different then the whole group of ally followers follow along because there all friends and must support each other. The whole school will look at the obnoxious outfit that these kids are wearing in school but will think its cool because the kids who command “respect” are wearing it and what they do goes. Then the next day no matter how crazy people look they will accept the new style and conform. In avatar all these themes are illustrated where it is the man who is different understand the people and their rights. Of course the white people do not realize that the people of avatar deserve a home until one of their own says something. This causes the people to change even though it takes a while and command respect for the people of avatar. I must say that the author is while where the white or person in power always runs the world and you will always need allys to get your way.

I am very glad that each time the United States census comes around it is getting more in depth on people’s race. In terms of the word negro I find it highly offensive. Yes politically incorrect but when you hear the word negro what do you think about. For me when I hear the word negro it takes me back to a time of slavery, a time where people of color were not granted the same rights as everyone else. This term was used for people of color as a term of oppression. This is why I feel like the word negro should not be used on the census because I personally find it extremely offensive and not a word of today’s times even though some people in this country do classify themselves as being negro. As times have changed I think its appropriate that they open up new categories for different races. Especially in the united state which almost a Mecca for many people to pursue their hopes and dreams everyone deserves a chance to be represented. Not only is it a source of pride for people but it shows equality which shows a change in our world. The census provides a historical factor of how are world is changing as more races are being represented. Also another factor of people being able to check more than one box makes it socially acceptable and does not force people to have to choose sides with one race as in the older days. Being a mixed person myself I found it very confusing about which box to check off on standard testing and they always said select more one. Now this year on the census I can truly show who I am in this unique world that we live in. Race seems to be such a major topic in this world. I understand that color does not have anything to do with who we are or even where we come from but I find it very special to note the historical factors of our ever changing world. Even though only 2.4 percent of the population checked more than one box it still believe that there are many people out there who do not acknowledge there multicultural background, it’s still holds ground for social barriers to be broken. It’s amazing how we have evolved from so many cultural differences in our non understanding world. In the 1800’s when the census first appeared you could only choose white or negro which in term meant you were a slave. In today’s world where people are fighting for the representation for their ethnicity and now sexual orientation this an amazing change in the society of our culture to know how many types of people and origins we have in our world.

I think that Robertson is full of crap. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that someone can make ridiculous comments about such a tragic event. People who only believe in him are apart of this 700 club, which is clearly for old time people who have a type of thinking that is not with today’s sate of mind. He is probably saying these obnoxious comments just to create attention about the topic and just for people to argue about. I am a spiritual person myself but I do not believe that the devil has anything to do with this tragedy. At first when reading this article it seemed somewhat realistic since people were once spiritual beings believing in god and making pacts with spirits to bring them a normal life. But this is just another lame excuse for being religion into such precious topic. Spiritually this could be possibly be a reason if people believe in karma and what not but more than likely this is just a myth that we will never know is true or not. In terms of not having people who think differently I personally believe that people should have their own say on any topic. I just think that when people out religion into things especially if they do not believe in a certain religion that that does not place an argument on the situation. Of course his supporters are going to believe in him and no one will argue with him. But honestly as I have heard from other comments from this man he seems to bring religion into every topic, which is knotty, a great basis for an argument. Learning that he is a mentally ill person, unfortunately society has made them almost 2ndclass citizens who people do pay attention to. By him making theses comments in his current mental state I believe that this is not a valid statement for him to make.
