Hey guys, I've been out of the jailbreaking/unlocking scene for quite some time now, and I'd rather get the help of you all before going on my own instincts. So I have an iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom that I would like to update and unlock on iOS 5.0.1 Right now, it's on 4.3.3 with a baseband of 5.13.04, so I know that if I just update while preserving the baseband, Ultrasn0w should be able to unlock it. So here's the thing... I just created a custom IPSW with Redsn0w, but before I went ahead and restored it, I was wondering how activation worked. If I restore to the custom IPSW with iTunes while in pwned DFU, will I be able to then just jailbreak with Redsn0w and then proceed to unlock with Ultrasn0w? Do I have to activate the phone somehow? (On T-Mobile, don't have AT&T sim) Thanks in advance for your support guys :)

Never mind, I fixed it. For anyone else having this issue, you have to connect your device back to Redsnow and select "Just boot tethered"

I just jailbroke my iPhone 4 Verizon with Redsnow 9.9b3. My phone is currently running ios5 gm, and I'm a dev, so it's activated. My issue is that when i jailbroke the device, cydia shows up as a white icon and doesnt launch. Also, the jailbreak seems to have broken some system apps such as safari and mail. Please advise

Hey I have an iPod Touch 2g with a model number that starts with PC, but apparently identifies itself as the 'newer model'. Is there any way to jailbreak it at 4.2.1? Thanks

I would not purchase anything from a sketchy source such as that. Lol. Frankly, I don't buy their claim.

Personally, I wouldn't purchase it. I would purchase one that is currently running on 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 That's because it's trickier to jailbreak on iOS4.

Google 'spiritjb' and download the program that comes up in the first hit. After that... 1) connect iPhone to computer 2) run spirit 3) wait for iphone to turn back on 4) go to settings --> general --> network --> turn off 3G 5) press home to get back to the home screen 6) go to cydia, wait for it to reorganize (if it doesn't do this, skip to the next step) 7) go to cydia, hit developers when it asks who you are (may not ask this, skip to next step) 8) in cydia, hit manage --> sources --> edit --> + --> enter the repo for ultrasn0w --> let it do its thing. 9) in cydia, hit search --> search for ultrasn0w --> install --> confirm ---> reboot device It's gonna be hard to get lost after that guide =P

If you 'update' then no, everything is gonna be fine except you might not see a jailbreak for it anytime soon. If you do the 'shift + restore' thing, then yes, everything is gonna get deleted but it wont be locked and you still might not see a jailbreak in the near future.
