Yes, I know. I was the one who said the quote right after Trump said what he said... Rand's was a bit different a bit later.

Good day to you as well, Dave. Thanks for the comments. I'm sorry that a disagreement on a political issue can lead you to this end. I welcome your right to discriminate against me and my blog by "showing" me "the door". Enjoy, Marc

NewsReal Blog : Ron Paul Attempts to Pork out on American Taxpayers

Putting in earmarks at his constituent's request allows his constituent's to get some of the money back that they paid in federal taxes for projects that directly benefit them. This is part of his job as a representative. Putting in earmarks does not increase spending one bit. It's just allocating money that is going to be spent somewhere and somehow. And no wonder Obama supports a ban on earmarks.. if there is a ban then all that already allocated money goes directly to the Executive Branch to spend. Earmarks make up less than 2% of the budget. It's one of the last areas where Congress can hold on to their Constitutionally demanded power of the purse. Instead, supporting a ban on earmarks means you must support giving even more power and money to the Executive Branch. I can't support that even if the false messiah, as you call him, did not softly support them like he does. On term limits... well he's been there a long time and during his time he's introduced and voted for many term limits bills. He did not term-limit himself though and if that makes him a hypocrite... well... on that issue you may have a point. Of course, if someone is going to be a hypocrite on term limits I'd want them to all be true Constitutionalists like Paul. And... to really institute term limits we'd need a Constitutional Amendment anyway. Getting 75% to agree to pass an Amendment to put themselves on the unemployment line is unlikely to happen, but I can bet you one thing... Ron Paul would likely vote for that amendment. I woke up a long time ago. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of you to come along. Enjoy.

Liberty Maven : Poll: Jim DeMint / Ron Paul vs. Obama / Biden in 2012

Scotty, Let me quote you directly: "In fact, I believe this article is meant to undercut support for Ron Paul in 2010 because you are not a true libertarian but part of the Neo-Con bunch that hijacked the tea party." Here is the direct link to your comment on the original article: http://libertymaven.com/2010/09/15/the-ron-paul-r... You, in fact, did call me part of "the Neo-Con bunch" which sounds a lot like calling me a Neo-Con, if I'm not mistaken. I never accused DeMint of being a libertarian. That would be idiotic. I'm merely trying to make the point that I'm willing to risk having DeMint as Prez, if Ron Paul was the VP, hoping he'd help DeMint see the light. Chances are quite good that wouldn't happen given DeMint's track record, but I'm willing to vote for such a ticket and then lobby and hope for it to happen. I will still hope beyond hope that I'll have a chance to vote for a ticket with Ron Paul at the top, but I just don't believe that to be likely.

Thanks for all of the comments... Let me make clear. I am not necessarily advocating or hoping for a DeMint/Paul nomination in 2012. I am just saying that the two have worked together on issues in the past and are fairly close on economic policy and I could vote for such a ticket should it happen. It appears from the poll results thus far that most people would support it as well. DeMint is not ideal for libertarians because he's certainly not a libertarian. I know that. My feeling is that with the recent wave of conservatives rethinking our foreign interventions DeMint may be swayed. Especially if Ron Paul could help him understand the link between it and economics. I'm not necessarily a Tea Party guy, but I know several devout Tea Party activists and they all are re-thinking interventionism. It is THE window of opportunity for the non-interventionists to help them see the light completely. When Michael Steele, George Will, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Joe Scarborough all begin capitulating toward Ron Paul's foreign policy doesn't that give you hope that someone like DeMint could as well? I'll be posting more thoughts on this in an upcoming article. Stay tuned and thanks for participating in the discussion.

Tyler... I agree and personally I'd LOVE to see a Paul/Johnson ticket. I worry about DeMint as well, but thus far he has bucked the GOP party establishment many times so I think if we HAD to pick an electable candidate at the top of the ticket who has the best possible chance of not caving in to the pressure, it just might be DeMint.

He is solid on the issues, and I would support him if he runs, but I don't think he has the "it" factor. I was there during his speech during one of the CPAC evening sessions sponsored by the C4L and he was sleep-inducing. I've since heard him do many many interviews. I love the guy on the issues, but in my view, he just doesn't have "it" to win a lot of support. I hope I'm wrong and as I said, I would certainly support him should he run.

So do you fault Ron Paul for sullying his own name by working with DeMint on auditing the Fed legislation? It is not I who "linked" them. It was Ron Paul himself. I suggest you read all the articles I've written on this site since April of 2007 before you call me a neo-con hijacker of the tea party. That assertion quite laughable.

Once again... if forming coalitions on areas of agreement is good enough for Ron Paul it should be good enough for us. Ron Paul has coalitions with people like Barney Frank and Dennis Kucinich on certain issues while they BOTH voted for Obamacare. That doesn't stop Ron Paul from maintaining that coalition even though he vehemently disagrees with them in that area.

Fair point. Perhaps "exactly" was a bit hyperbolic. However, the point is that they can find a lot of common ground on economics while Paul can "educate" DeMint more about the direct connection between economic policy and foreign policy. If Glenn Beck can do an entire show about cutting military spending then Paul can certainly help DeMint see the light too.

Liberty Maven : Pick an Agency, Any Agency: Amtrak

I'd give up government subsidized trains and many other government programs if it meant I did not have to ever pay income taxes again. Wouldn't you? Then I could spend all my extra money on services that I actually use and give to charities that are in accordance with my own views. Just because the government subsidizes something doesn't mean it will cease to exist if there weren't subsidies. If the consumer has a demand for a high speed train from NC to Boston or wherever then it should be the entrepreneur's job to make it happen and make it profitable while meeting that demand and pleasing the customer. The government should just get the hell out of the way. The government keeps touching me everywhere. And it's starting to make me uncomfortable. Maybe I should sue for sexual harassment? Oh nevermind... given their track record they probably exempt themselves from such lawsuits. :)

Liberty Maven : Ron Paul and Michael Steele: A Foreign Policy Fissure in the GOP

I understand your point but consider: 1 - Obama is the President right now. Not Bush. 2 - Obama campaigned on taking the fight to Afghanistan. 3 - Obama did just that. Therefore... It is Obama's war and Steele is right. He may have inherited it from Bush, but it is his baby now. Steele nor I said that Obama "ordered us to invade Afghanistan". That doesn't matter. Obama is POTUS and he turned our Afghanistan occupation into a mini-surge (as Bush did in Iraq). He could have chosen to bring our troops home, but he escalated it instead. If we end up invading North Korea from South Korea I suppose you would call it Truman's war since he was the president when we entered into the Korean war (also undeclared) and we've had troops there since that time (1950). To me that would be what you term a "crock of shiite". Afghanistan is Obama's choice and his war. Enjoy!
