I have an old 3G and the update was successfull. First i forgot to select "add ipad firmware" but when i selected this is whas working very good. I have now 4.2.1 with VODAFONE NL on a 3G/16 Thanks guys

I had the same... but when my iphone was 'black screened' the restore was working I had it in a strange DFU mode? try and try it will work
