GazetteOnline.com : What’s on your mind today?

What an insult to refer to the White House as Obama's House!! (Aug. 2, front page). iImagine the outcry if it would have been referred to as Bush's House, or for that matter any other president. It is OUR house, the citizens of the United States. His house is still with his cronies in Chicago.

KCRG : Demolition Begins on the Smokestack at the Old Sinclair Site | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, S

Just wondering why Mercy Medical Center brought down a much larger structure than this in minutes by blasting, even though it was adjacent to other buildings. This stack sits in the open, and they say it will take weeks to bring it down. Perhaps because government money is involved and available?? I've also seen other chimneys very similar brought down quickly with a single explosion.

Why would the Gazette run a full page scam ad about so-called State $2 bill offers? It is an absolute lie that $2 bills are scarce and rarely in circulation. Take your returnable bottles to the Can Shed recycling and you can get all the $2 bills you want, same thing at most local banks. I'm sure the Gazette made good money on this ad today (6/22) but please don't print things that are so clearly DISHONEST!

Where are the priorties? Why buy a hotel? How about using some money to elevate the south end of the Edgewood Road bridge over the Cedar and fortify our city wells. I hear nothing about these important needs and probably will not until the water starts to rise again. These are essential for our city's survival!

GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids close to creating enviromental standards for rebuilding projects

Why must the council always have to talk about "resolutions' to get anything done. Sure they want to conserve energy but I have repeatedly complained about all the parking lot lights that burn nightly at veterans' stadium when there is not a single car in the lot. They know its happening but nothing is done. There are so many other ways to conserve. Turn off every other street light on 8th ave. bridge for example. You can read a newspaper there at night currently--is that degree of illumination necessary? I believe the real culprit is Alliant Energy who sells all these lights and electricity to keep their stockholders happy. There are literally 100's of similar situations in Cedar Rapids where energy use could be cut, with no negative consequences. Come on council, just take some action and forget about all these crazy resolutions that aren't followed by action.
