No he succeeded. Remainer Conservatives have either had to come to terms with leaving the EU like Lidington or have been forced to leave the party like Gauke. The Conservative party is now overwhelmingly EU- sceptic

As a non-Tory, let me assure you that Gauke and Lidington come across very much as Tories to their bones. Perhaps because you don't know the Conservative party.

It's just another expensive layer of bureaucracy. I see no evidence that it adds anything at all. It also has absolutely nothing whatever to do with One Nation conservatism.

ukip helped ensure the people were given a referendum on our relationship with the EU.. I will always be grateful for that.

not sure what regional government has to do with One Nation Conservatism at all. The only people who I thought wanted regional government were the EU. I haven't noticed any of our MPs anywhere calling for it. Some areas like the West Midlands, Tees side and the Northwest have strong Mayors. The jury is out on whether they lead to better government. You also might have noticed that welfare spending has gone through the roof in recent months. No government of any hue ever has done so much to protect the vulnerable. Are you sure you're really a Conservative?

I never understand why some people are obsessed by a moribund party with no seats and no influence. Are ukip still in existence?
