Why Vote NO in Michigan Proposal #1. 1. It is a $ 2 Billion tax increase for Michigan Taxpayers. Only 60% of which goes to roads, and only 25% the first year. 2. Increasing sales tax to 7% would make our state the 2nd highest in the nation. Our current property tax rates are already 8th highest in the nation. 3. $300 million goes to schools and local governments, not roads. 4. $116 million goes to public transportation, not roads 3. $260 million goes to welfare payments, via the ridiculous State Earned Income Credit. Does not provide tax relief to anyone. 4. Increases our vehicle registration fees by $100 Million. 5. Warranties on road construction projects should be enacted MDOT without a Constitution Amendment. NOTE WELL: Proposal 1 is for a Constitutional Amendment. Not just a law. (That is so it can be used to raise certain taxes that our present Constitution will not allow). ALSO: It is tied to at least 10 other proposed LAWS that will take effect ONLY if WE should be so gullible as to pass the Amendment. These won't show up on the May 5th ballot, but most surely will have massive effects. EXAMPLE: Hidden taxes such as raising the WHOLESALE tax on gasoline so it will not show as a tax at the gas station. The price will be higher, but they hope you will blame the "greedy owner" and the "greedy oil company" when in fact it's your greedy state government using this proposal to put over money transfers to departments having NOTHING to do with FIXING ROADS!
