I hate ALL unions, especially the Teacher's unions. That's why we homeschool our kids. BUT as soon as I learned that this medicine must be administered rectally, my antenna went up. The proposed law seems to be the wrong one. The law should be that every school has a nurse trained in how to administer the medication, and that any substitute nurses should also have said training. I do NOT support a law allowing "social studies" teachers to penetrate a student's anus for ANY reason. Call the friggin nurse! I do not blame the unions here for not wanting their members to be subject to lawsuits for mistakenly adminsitering the medication - as a lawyer I would LOVE to sue a 4th grade teacher and a school system for neglgiently tearing a child's hymen with a syringe. Either way, this is not the issue to highlight, since the other side of the debate has a meritorious case.
