Would people stop harping about the gold standard already?????? Let's look at what happens with a supposedly stable currency based on gold: since money is a way to exchange units of labor and over time, more labor is produced through both work force expansion and automation/efficiency gains, the supply of money must necessarily increase over time at a rate more quickly than any one country can accumulate new gold to back the currency. This means one of 2 things must happen: either massive deflation because much more labor is getting paid for by the same amount of gold, or constant re-valuing of currency against gold as the amount of circulating money necessarily increases to avoid deflation (this is what historically happens). Both of those solutions defeat the stated purpose of having a gold standard. Fiat currencies are therefore necessary because no physical currency has actual value (gold is only worth what one person will pay for it, you can't eat it and it is not essential to life), portability, preservability, and abundance necessary to be a true currency. Therefore, all currency is valued based on the faith in the government backing the currency. The only perceived benefit of a gold standard that makes any sense is that the congress has to take a vote on how to re-value currency against gold. The way to do this with a fiat currency is to abolish the Fed and make congress vote every time they increase the money supply.

Actually, I do not construe marriage as a right, to be honest, can anything that you must obtain a state license to do be considered a right? It is a privilege granted by INDIVIDUAL STATES, which is why STATES ISSUE MARRIAGE LICENSES, not the federal government. Currently each state regulates whether or not they allow homosexual marriages or civil unions, or both, just as each state has different standards for what is considered incest, the punishments for incest, laws against polygamy and beastiality. All of these are STATE LAWS, the only thing that the federal government decided to regulate is homosexual marriage (unconstitutionally, I might add by the 10th amendment). By the full faith and credit clause of article 4, all states must honor contracts made in other states, therefore, constitutionally, a gay marriage or civil union made in one state must be honored in all states. Therefore, constitutionally you DO NOT have to marry someone of the opposite sex, you merely have to attain a civil union or gay marriage in a state that offers one, and you are good to go in any state as guaranteed by the constitution.

Even the religious shouldn't want a president who wants to govern on faith. The fact is that Christianity has over 30,000 different denominations, and different churches have wildly differing viewpoints on politics, therefore, the chances that a religious candidate will have the same moral compass as the majority of America is next to nothing. I would no sooner vote for Rev. Wright (Obummer's commie pastor) than I would for Joel Osteen.

If you want to defend your position, then defend it, if you want to blindly prop up Romney like a stooge, then just do that. The fact is that I have presented reasons for my position and you have not presented any for your own other than your opinion that Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani are left of BOTH Gingrich and Romney. You defended RomneyCare by saying that the alternative would be worse. Your argument is that Romney compromised his principles to prevent a worse evil, if that were true, then he would not defend RomneyCare as it exists today, he would say that he created a bad program but that it was the best that he could do under the circumstances. As for the contractor argument on hiring illegals, there is this thing called "vetting" that people in high positions do, it prevents them from doing stupid things like having illegals mow your lawn for 2 years while you are governor of a state with high unemployment! Honestly, putting the current candidates on a left to right spectrum is hard to do when you consider that they all have non-conservative positions in one area or another, which position do you give more weight to?

Exactly how do you figure that? Romney created "RomneyCare" , still defends it, and employed illegals. Gingrich has had so many inconsistent positions over the years that it is hard to say exactly what he'd ever do, he has supported climate change legislation and mandates for healthcare in the past, and has said he is still open to the climate change debate. But, most recently, he has come out with an amnesty plan for illegals.
