http://www.cbc.ca/thenational/ : The Real Lives of Canadian Teachers - CBC News - The National

You know, the "real" problem is Hollywood, MTV, main stream media promoting and endorsing the "rapper-hip-hop" lifestyle and it's celebrities because they make a lot of $$$. Tiffany doesn't stand a chance. Not to mention the communication devices (iPad, smartphones, etc) which provide the immediate access to all this crap. And now we're bringing it into the schools so that our young "can learn better" and not fall behind in the technology. Of course, if you have stock in Apple or Telecom companies, who cares? We as a society better get on these issues or Detroit and South Central LA just won't be on the other side of the tunnel or near Venice Beach. And as the report shows, it is all ready here. Not to mention the recent riots in Britain. This said, Tiffany has her work cut out for her. She is doing what teachers on the frontline should do as a "re-enforcer of values"; not just skills. Sadly, considering today's Tech, Social Media, TV and consumerism circus, we wish her luck because she should not have had to deal with it in the first place!

He's from Newfoundland & Labrador as we all know. They used to be the brunt of jokes in this country but not anymore. And if I remember correctly ex-Premier Danny Williams found out about the Harper Government and liked him so much he went ABC. Wonder who he voted for. He must be a jerk too?

You may cite Venezuela as doing this well. But there is one difference. He nationalized his country's oil industry instead of letting Conoco-Philips run it. Country is doing well I understand because of it

But did anyone notice that the US increased it's budgets for police and so has Canada. And why is the priority of increased spending for the prison system on the agenda? But as the NDP campaign manager iterated: the trick to growing-up is after the loss of innocence to keep youthful idealism alive

Macleans.ca : No country for good men

Ethology 101. the study of the herd. While the herd, pack, colony, pride can be the most effective means for a species to provide nurture and protection it can also thereby ensure that the strongest and the fittest become the leaders or dominant progenitors to make sure that the species survives. Too clinical? Yet is this not what we are discussing here?

"There Will Be Blood" Powerful words and powerful movie. But this "withdrawal" from the addiction is going to take years. In any event, mother nature or whatever will take care of herself. I doubt we will have much to do about hastening or preventing the laws of physics.
now I know why rape is so difficult to prosecute. But I hope Mr. Layton and Ms. Chow use their stay at Stornoway wisely and work toward moving into where the guy who runs the Harper Government lives. Because I really don't like Harper's country being called Harper's country. Partisan .. you bet!

it is obvious the dean is PMSing - read: P(ower)M(oney)S(ex). 21st century technology and 18th century morality. People, get a life. Meantime the porn sites are making obscene amounts of money. And everyone has seen them - doctors, lawyers, politicians and yes, engineers! Not to mention your husbands and wives. So a car with a girl in a bikini? A lot of race cars are sold this way. But as the dean says: "but that's the way it is in life?" Very confused

let them go back to Gangs of New York. To kill men at close quarters with a knife or axe is quite different than using an automatic weapon. And much less "co-lateral damage". But given our species propensity towards more efficient ways of killing I don't think this is going to happen.
re: sovereign power and self-governance. "with great power comes great responsibility" and for Western style democracy this inevitably means handling the trough of money which becomes a temptation for pork-barreling. The broader implications of Capitalism vs Socialism aside, First Nation leaders would be wise to heed the lessons of the emerging African nations lest they join this illustrious crowd.
very smart man. It's too bad he never entered Federal politics. He would have been a "great" PM. But he took care of a most precious resource, the people of Newfoundland-Labrador. No separatist he either.
Macleans.ca : Generation spend

no it's not crazy talk. And it's "quantity over quality". The point is the "rich" know that "quantity" buys "quality" especially if the quantity(cheap labor) is at a good price!! we do not teach our children how to get rich(scams aside) because Capitalism is about "winners". The "big" question is: what to do with the "losers"? And when the losers start to out-number the winners in a society this is when things get tense and revolution ensues. Not rocket-science here. Just regular political and economic-science. I met an Oxford educated Jesuit priest once. It was an enlightening encounter
