The subservient chicken was hilarious... It may not be family-friendly, but I wonder if the thinking goes, families during the day.on the weekend; teenagers and university kids at lunch and in the evenings (and the late evening, after the bar)??

How old were you when you were using money from your paper route at the pub?!? ;)
Joking aside, your point about conspicuous consumption in London is a very apt...not to sound all country bumpkin, but in Toronto (a reasonably cosmopolitan city by most standards), anyone who has an Aston Martin, or a Bentley, or whatever, is THE guy who has an Aston Martin. I walk by three on my way to school every morning. In Toronto, those cars would go in a garage, not on the side of some random street!!
I think it is difficult for those of us who have not gone through a recession in our adult/working lives not to feel as though something is terribly wrong...but it is important to keep things in perspective, so thank you!! :)

The site looks great! I think they've done a good job of getting the "shabby chic" feel with graphics, product selection and the chatty tone of the written bits. I love the vintage wallpaper backgrounds! Great branding, whoever did it!!

I wonder if it would be possible to get more products displayed per page for ease of navigation (i.e. more matrix 3 across 4 down per page) so people don't have to hunt around too much? You'd just have the photo and title on the main page and then the longer description once you click in. The other suggestionwould be to remove the "introductory" part from the top of the product page and put it on the homepage on a rortating basis as a product spotlight - since alot of the products are niche/hard-to-find, this would be a ncie way of introducing the customer to something they didn't come to the site for specifically.

Per mcforever, at least you are old enough to drink beer while exchanging real information with trusted sources :)

Interesting - I love that Cathy Horyn story too!! I expect it will also make it more difficult for the labels given that knock-offs can be produced more quickly afterwards now that this is so common?
