StarkSilverCreek - All Things West Coast : 7-Step Thanksgiving Turkey Guide: The Secret to a Juicy, Tender Bird is the Clay Pot

Hi Kristi - If you are happy with your results, stick with how you are doing it! I cook mine at a lower temperature for longer and then in the last half hour or so I turn up to 425 degrees to brown the skin. Matter of preference really. If you do stuff your turkey, I would recommend the lower temp for longer to prevent outer meat on turkey from becoming overcooked. Just from my experience.

StarkSilverCreek - All Things West Coast : 'Naughty but Nice' Chocolate Almond Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Hi Jesse - Thanks for pointing this out. I will update the ingredients list. It is 2 cups of unbleached all-purpose flour or you can use whole wheat flour too. You can reduce the flour but if you do this, make sure you let the mixture of wet and dry ingredients sit for 20 min before baking. I would not eliminate ALL the flour personally as the cookies will have trouble binding.

Thanks Cathy for the support. The photos this year were amazing. I looked at the back cover gallery after I finished and thought, "This selection would have made a beautiful calendar as well!" We knew we would get some great photos when we opened this year's calendar to submissions by the Loreto community. However, the quality of all the photos exceeded all my expectations. As of my last count (I hope I am right), we have 113 calendar orders! I will definitely be ordering more than 100 calendars. I am so glad everyone is getting their orders as I really do want to fulfill everyone's order with this version of the calendar which has the back cover gallery and the wonderful quotes. Since every calendar will contribute about $9 to benefit the children of the Internado school in Loreto, we will keep trying to fulfill demand if you all keep ordering them. However, noted above, the pre-order will be guaranteed to get this limited edition version. Also, for those that got last year's calendar, one thing we did decide to keep was the type of binding as it allows the calendar to hang nicely.

StarkSilverCreek - All Things West Coast : Venturing into Vegetable Gardening

Hi Ric - I just responded to a comment last night asking me why I did put legs on mine. I think it depends on your situation and what you want to plant. I've had readers write in loving the height of the planter box because it is easier to work the soil without bending down and one reader built one for her brother who is in a wheel chair and couldn't reach down to garden. However, Helen, another reader commented that because I grew tomatoes in my planter box, I had to climb up in order to prune them so perhaps a lower planter box height would have alleviated this problem. Just factors to consider. As for the polyurethane sealer, I personally would feel uneasy about using it as I would be concerned about chemicals against my vegetable plant roots. I know others have used plant lining material from their garden supply store. Good luck, Loni

StarkSilverCreek - All Things West Coast : Starbucks VIA: Bringing new meaning to your fast-paced life

I still haven't tried it yet to weigh in on this but will try one of these days. It's just that if I am at a Starbucks, I am tempted just to order their tried and true stuff rather than venture to something that most would admittedly say is on par or below. Convenience true. Although I take the opportunity when I am not around a ready source of coffee to try to wean myself off of it a bit. I have my fourth year university thesis partner to blame for my caffeine addiction.

I find it a little amusing that Starbuck's in store coffee starts at the "tall" size of 12 oz and moves quickly up from there, yet their VIA format recommends 8 oz. I am all for smaller portion sizes, however, after Starbucks has trained us to gulp down Venti, I wonder if they are looking for consumers to double up on their tubes of this stuff.

StarkSilverCreek - All Things West Coast : Vegetable gardening with Loni's planter box: Maintenance Tips

Hi Helen - LOL. You bring up a very good point. I had built it on legs so that I could easily work the soil without having to bend down, Makes a lot of sense for those that are growing herbs in the planter box. The other reason was I had also designed a lower shelf for storage and any lower and the storage area would not be as useful. The sun also gets to it easier higher up as the fence casts shadows. Having said all this, when you bring up this point, it does make me think if I had weighed this factor to lightly in my original design. Yes, for tomatoes, a lower planter box may have been a nice compromise. I do know some readers have built this planter box without the legs and that is definitely a good option too. Best, Loni
