You're right, caphillkid, we do have the right to burn flags in this country, but have you stopped to consider that we this right because of the men and women in our military forces fighting to ensure that this right remains? You, me, or even they themselves might not agree with the battles they go into, but they still deserve our respect and appreciation for wearing the uniform and doing their job. Personally, I do believe that every soldier who has served (be it in a warzone or not) has protected my freedoms - and I respect each and every one of them for doing so.

I want my child to be happy, healthy and to enjoy positive relationships in her life. I want her to find a partner who will share that health and happiness with her. I was involved in a very similar accident - 3 cars were totaled. We didn't learn the at fault driver's name or insurance information for over a week (no, the at-fault driver wasn't a cop). This isn't a situation where the Mukilteo officers are protecting another office (after all, they did handcuff him and cart him to the precinct for processing) - that's just how it works a lot of the time

I can think of a tougher job - the corrections officers who have to work in that prison system, especially when the rights of the convicted felons seem to trump the rights and safety of those same corrections officers.

You're right, the media loves the negative side of police officers. Sadly, though, the media rarely focuses on the daily things that cops do, like in this story. If you look around, you'll see cops doing nice things quite often. So while I generally agree with you, I don't agree that "good cops need to take a hint," because they already do the kinds of things you mention (and more).

Sadly, neither of the previous comments is on topic. The work done by Lew Cox and Violet Crime Victims Services is fantastic. The examples cited in this news story are very accurate depictions of the victims that this organization supports - truly innocent victims of horrifically violent crimes. I hope this story will generate support for this non-profit organization!
