Things I'm still wondering about 2 (or 3) days later.... - I'm wondering if Shay Fields has a brain - I'm wondering if Kenneth Crawley has a heart - I'm wondering if Sean Irwin has...courage? No, eyesight!! As in, I'm a punt protector, and there's a punt blocker running right towards me, but apparently, I don't see him. (or perhaps he's more "Shay Fields-like" and just thought he was supposed to let that guy run right by without touching him!?) - I'm wondering if Addison Gilliam is the one-year, freshmen wonder that he most certainly appears to be at this point. - I'm wondering - despite mentions of improved depth - why no one on this team ever gets benched for poor play and/or stupid plays that cost us the game (see PR Fields, Shay). - I'm wondering (not really actually) if this team will ever win with Sefo Liufau at QB - I'm wondering why we brought in Jim Leavitt to liven up the defense, and then he just stands there all game like some disinterested outside observer not talking to anyone - about as engaged as a security guard on the sidelines! - I'm wondering if the coaching staff ever thought this team of mostly experienced players could ever lay such an egg. It was almost as if they had not practiced at all since last December. - I'm wondering how many recruits are de-committing or crossing CU off their list already. - I'm wondering if Hawaii will win another game this year (my guess = No, and Norm Chow is fired) - I'm wondering if Mike McIntyre is already starting to try and figure out where his next coaching stint is at. - And finally, I'm wondering now how long it will be before CU has a winning football program...because it's going to have to undergo further changes from the current group in order to have the chance to do so. - localBuff

This is all fine and good but is any of this camaraderie and weightlifting going to help the Buffs figure out how to run an offensive set and/or hit an outside shot? Which were clearly their two biggest problems last year.

Wow - I am rather shocked at the reaction to this article. I am not a big Kyle Ringo fan, nor a detractor. He mostly just reports news rather than opinion pieces (or as far as I know = I don't read the Camera much, but do come to this website a fair amount to get Buff news). Basically, while the last paragraph rang a little thin for me, for the most part this article seems fine to me. You guys can defend 'Ski all you want but the fact is true = he has tarnished his legacy via this odd decision. Now, maybe he didn't really have that much of a legacy to tarnish, and maybe no one will remember this in a few years based on our current society (especially with sports news). But, I am CU alum ('91), will always be a life-long Buff fan and supporter, and I won't be forgetting this (at least until I'm forgetting everything that is). I'm not saying I'm wholly disappointed by this move and/or have a negative opinion about Askia Booker, or his career here (I don't), but this just doesn't make any real sense, so good luck Plati trying to spin it so it does. By the same general rationale here = any Senior who's football team is going to a bowl game between two 6-6 teams should just hang it up after the last regular season game because they are a) "banged up", and b) "the younger guys need the experience". Hey - it all makes sense right guys? Then how come nobody, ever, in either sport has ever done this before - eh? - LocalBuff

VKB - So, you're whining along with us? Or, unlike anyone else who follows college basketball, you looked at this team/roster pre-season and deduced that this wasn't a very good basketball team? Chiding the commenters on here makes no sense VKB - this team has underachieved to date, perhaps more so than any other team in the country based on pre-season rankings - and the CU fans are understandably disappointed in that, and hence are here stating that disappointment on this message board, It's a reaction that's quite common and makes perfect sense - no?

EP - I concur about the 3-pointer in college basketball (and at CU). I don't know if the solution is moving the line back, but there are way too many college teams whose only real game plan is just to hoist 3's and hope they have a hot shooting night - that's taking away from a good part of the game/strategy of basketball. With CU - definitely frustrating that we don't have a true marksman - Blair Wilson anyone? Surprisingly, CU ranks in the top half of college basketball in team 3-pt shooting % (and well ahead of Hawaii, which is astounding if you watched yesterday's game). Finally, 'Dom'?...Collier is getting a nickname already? He's only scored 23 points in his entire career and he's already a household name = "Dom"? How do we know he doesn't go by 'Nic? (way cooler!)

Well said bb. This has been such a disappointing season based on the talent and experience we supposedly had coming into the year. The fact is, we've seen most of these guys play better last year individually, and as a collective group - and now they look like it's the first season they've all ever played together (still trying to figure out each others roles, etc.), Makes no sense, and you have to look at the coaches when you're scratching your head over what is wrong with this team. One other issue = recruiting. We obviously have not recruited enough true point guards over the past 3 years. We have a lot of guys that can handle the ball to some degree, but when the game gets close at the end, we turn it over because nobody is a natural point guard - whose primary skills are to get the ball up court and set the offense (except for perhaps Collier, who is very inexperienced anyway).

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU football: Buffs\' Liufau shakes off early interception - Buffzone

Agreed with VKBERLIN's assement. This article is misleading - Lifau rebounded, then threw an even worst interception in the second half, and essentially played his worst half of football at CU since he became the starter. Overall, he's regressing - he has shown no real running ability, no ability to scan the field, seemingly an inability to throw over the middle - hence we ignore that 1/3 of the field, often defeats a receiver's chance to make a play by throwing the ball out of bounds along the sideline, and an inability to get out of trouble and still keep his eyes downfield. To be fair, he has no running game support and the play calling was terrible today - what are we down to 4-5 plays that we know how to run? Don't mean to gripe too much - this was an important win today, and the defense played very well. But, I hope MacIntyre is noticing the problems on offense and not just shrugging it off as a bad day for Lifau. I think we need to seriously consider Gherke at QB - at least open up the competition for starter. - LB

I can't believe there is all this talk about how Buff fans "hope he comes back", etc. etc. While I will admit that if he came back and became a star running back, it would be a great story for CU - that is just not likely to happen. I'm not saying I care if he comes back and takes up a scholarship - even though NJBuff is right, he completely just quit on this team for really no reason - but let's face it,...he's just not that good! The argument that Hawkins had this incredible running back, but just refused to play him is b.s. Scott had his chances - he's OK, but far from a top caliber back. He gets injured all the time - there's no real power to his game, nor breakaway speed. Sorry to give him the NFL critical analysis...I know he's just a college kid. I hope the best for him, and maybe it can work out for him at CU - but I'm not getting excited either way. I'm hoping one of the new RB recruits is awesome...with D. Scott, we pretty much already know he isn't. Oh, and hey - thanks for the mention that he "won't be able to be in the Spring Game". THAT is crucial news!

The talk of "recruits going elsewhere" and linking it to the "weaker facilities at CU" is not really adding up. Look at the schools listed in the article as the ones where current recruits are departing to: California, Stanford, Northwestern, Arizona State, (TCU is mentioned later). These schools DO NOT have superior facilities to CU - there are no modern indoor facilities, or huge stadiums at any of these universities. I'm not saying facilities don't matter, and I agree CU does need more financial support than it is currently getting, but clearly these kids are making they're choices based on something other then the level of facilities.

I agree. Let Georgia cancel the game - pay some patsy team $100k to come here instead. Problem with that is there is no real "patsy" team for Hawk to beat up on; CU has, for the most part, performed terribly against non-BCS (and even 1-AA) teams under Hawk. But yeah, you pocket $700k out of nowhere, and hopefully get a better chance at a win. Plus it doesn't seem like anyone cares about tough scheduling anymore. CU does it, hardly anyone else does. I don't see it helping CU, or hurting the teams that aren't doing it.

Gonna have to disagree on Miller. He is very average. Recruited as a tackle, but he can't handle an active defensive lineman, and is easily intimated by aggressive play. So, moved to guard where he still gets pushed around more than not. He is not a complete bust, but he is far from a 5-star. He is looking more like a 3-star recruit who will probably get drafted in the 6th-7th round - mainly just because of how big he is.

I agree buffalo-flyer - anyone who thinks CU can consistently compete with the likes of schools like Texas and Alabama is not being realistic. But my point to someone like "NJ Buff"'s comment is that big-time programs fall down (didn't we just play a 6-6 Alabama team in a bowl game 2 years ago), smaller programs step up. As a program, CU is admittedly not in the Top 25 in fan base, and facilities, whatever. Other schools are lower in academic standards, lack a scenic/cool campus, or proximity to a major metropolitan area, etc. Everything adds up, CU had pluses and minuses, like nearly every other Div 1-A program. My point is that CU has enough pluses to do a better job then we have seen. Complaints about how the performance is related to the facilities, or the fact that we only average 47,500 per game (more than the Jacksonville Jaguars if you're reading this NJ buff?), do not hold water. Get the right people in here, people who know CU, and know football, and it can work. Again, maybe not BCS bowl games every year, but we can at least be 8-4, 9-3/Top 25 team that goes to a bowl game nearly every year.

The loss of recruits on the heels of a questionable 5th year for Hawk is disturbing, and the program definitely feels like it is deflating big time - But I am totally sick of the b.s. arguments put forth by NJ Buff. As much as people want to say it - facilities, and total attendance DO NOT make or break a program. There are 4 teams (40%) in BCS bowl games who have smaller stadiums, fan base, facilities, etc. than CU. Meanwhile Michigan and Tennessee, who run 1-2 in total attendance and pay their coaches millions are a combined 18-30 over the last two years (yes, I know UT is going bowling this year at 7-5, they are also under NCAA investigation again, and lead the nation in bad press). Throw in ND - all the talent, all the facilities, all the money, 30,000 more fans per game than the Buffs - where did that get them? Meanwhile - look at Cincinnati - 20,000 less fans per game than CU, no tradition, no facilities - they have gone 22-2 the past two years. IT CAN BE DONE PEOPLE! Hawk is likely not the guy to do it, but it can be done at CU! Maybe not Top 10 every year, but we can do better than 3-9. The fortunes of the team are not pre-determined by the size of the stadium.

It should remind you of CU @ Nebraska - Nov. 3rd, 1990. The year the Buffs won the Nat'l Championship. In that game, played under a cold, heavy rain....the visiting team was over-matched for 3 quarters - fumbling the wet ball away 4 times. Yet trailed just 12-0 going into the 4th quarter. Suddenly, the visiting team scores 4 unanswered touchdowns in the last quarter and walks out with a 27-12 victory. Same exact thing happened in both games with CU winning in Lincoln, and Nebraska winning last night
