I feel sorry for the lives lost on 9/11 but these people did nothing to deserve the money they received from the government. First responders families got an average 1.1 million dollars than did victims. The average family received over 3 million dollars. All this was paid out to avoid lawsuits against the airlines. I have no idea why the government felt a responsibility to protect the airlines against the possibility of loosing a suit. If they were negligent in some way, they should pay. But the precedent set by the government is a dangerous one. To the best of my knowledge, we have never compensated victims of foreign aggression to this extent. There have been many hijackings, kidnappings and unlawful detainment of innocent Americans. Why did we decide to compensate some but not others?
