KOMO - Seattle, WA : Investigators seek 2 women in Lindsey Baum case | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

He might seem like a nice guy, but the evidence they have found so far sure doesn't look good for him. He lied about where he was, he was apparently had "handwritten notes regarding the missing child" ( per Kiro), and he was in the vicinity of where she went missing during that time frame. The search turned up some other things (fingernails, hair) that hopefully will bring more answers. I'm sorry, but if you were somewhere buying a Pepsi and found out that night that a girl was missing from the area, in a very small town no less, wouldn't you remember where you were? If he didn't do it, I hope he has a damn good lawyer and that the hair and fingernails come back with DNA that isn't Lyndsey's.

She lied to the police who were serving the warrant, she told them that he wasn't in her home when he was. Police then smelled drugs, entered, and found him. They were serving a warrant to search his body, not arrest him. They are likely trying to match up markings with some of the photos found.

I've never heard of a restaurant hiring security. Seeing that would be enough to make me leave immediately. I'm glad that the victim fought back and wasn't hurt worse.

It doesn't look as thought Rebecca's murder is going to be the one that gets him the death penalty. He admitted in 2001 that he "probably" killed her, but claimed to be unsure of the location of her remains. He did, however, claim that he left the remains of an early victim (in addition to Marie Malvar, who was found) in the location where they found Rebecca. This is going to be considered within the plea agreement.

So you don't have specific cases that you believe he is innocent of? There is proof of a LOT, trust me. Tell me just one case that he was convicted of without genuine evidence. There isn't one. But by all means, if you disagree, throw a name out there.

Absolutely. Bundy and Dobson each had their own agendas, and they just happened to play into each other very well. Bundy needed to drum up some sympathy, and Dobson wanted to prove that porn was the downfall of society. Bundy also had women who swore that he was misunderstood and wonderful. He had them completely snowed as to who he really was, even after he had been convicted. Now Ridgway has people claiming that he is misunderstood and that they are the ones who REALLY understand him.

He hid the truth from his wife, hid his true self from his brothers, deceived everyone he knew as to who he really was, but you think that whatever he wrote to you is the truth? He has lied his entire life, hid the most horrible secrets that a person can have, but he wouldn't lie to you, right?

I agree with you completely. She must have been running on some serious denial. I'm sure that, in hindsight, she sees a million different things that should have clued her in. I think that most of us would react as you said, if the cops told us what they did her. I suspect that he wasn't looking for someone who would question him much about that sort of thing, and he married someone who wouldn't challenge him. It is just sad. I feel for her, she is a victim of his as well. I can't imagine the humiliation and feelings of betrayal that she probably deals with daily.

Honestly, I don't think she knew. By all accounts, he treated her well. She had had a history of bad relationships, and Ridgway was good to her. From her viewpoint, he loved garage sales and church and she was happy. He explained away his arrests for solicitation by saying it was a misunderstanding, and heck, a LOT of people were investigated at that time for the Green River murders, so he was able to downplay it all. She wanted (needed, even) to believe him. She apparently wasn't the type of person to question these things very far, and if she had any doubt, she didn't WANT to think about it. She really does seem like a nice enough, and honest, person. This has devastated her, she didn't believe that he was guilty until she was completely unable to be in denial any longer.

I really believe (or maybe just hope very much), that he will eventually be tried for some murders in Snohomish county (where his deal wouldn't count for anything at all). I don't for a moment believe that he "doesn't remember". Serial killers don't only remember, they obsess. He might not be the brightest guy around, but I am certain that he remembers a whole lot more than he will ever say. I don't think that the police believe him, either, but how do you prove that someone remembers something? His victims were his secrets, they also are the only semblance of power that he has likely ever had or will have. He remembers.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Law isn't my strong suit, I know just enough to get me into trouble more so than out of it. He was tried for all at once, but they were separate charges. There are plenty of trials where a person is found not guilty of one charge but guilty of others, right? Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about (i.e. not me) will chime in...

If he only got one life term, and a lawyer was able to get that thrown out (and he does have very good lawyers), he would walk free (or be re-tried). With 48, that is very unlikely to happen.

Which murders do you think that he falsely confessed to? Due to locations that the bodies were found and DNA, I think he is pretty solidly linked to the vast majority (if not all) of the ones that he was convicted of. Looking at locations alone, what is the likely hood that two serial killers, completely independent of each other, were finding their victims at the same places, then also disposing of their remains at the same locations? Then there is DNA linking him to others, some of which (for various reasons) were certainly killed by the same person.... it all makes a web (albeit a messy one) right back to him. He either killed at least the 48 he was convicted of, or he is the unluckiest person alive. Personally, I think he's guilty as hell. If he didn't commit all of them, he knows who did and was part of it.

Many of the families of the women killed by Ridgway did support the plea deal. Their feelings and opinions were taken into account when the decision was made. They wanted to know what happened to their loved ones. Hard to say if it was the right thing to do or not, but I know that if it had been my mother or daughter, I would have wanted to know what happened to her more than I'd want to see him die and know that I'd never have any answers. He had information that was worth it to them to keep him alive.

My understanding is that it wasn't completely unheard of for her to disappear for awhile. That was the case with many of the victims, which made it easier for him to get away with it. Many times they were considered to have just left the area, until their remains were found or a large amount of time had passed. He preyed on women who were very vulnerable and who he thought he'd get away with killing, due to their lifestyles and societies attitudes about them. Very, very sad. I'm glad that he found out that he was wrong, he hasn't gotten away with it and people DO care about his victims. Very much so.

Marie Malvar was found there (or very near). He came closest to being caught with her, police actually were at his front door looking for her. He told them that she wasn't in the house, and they left. She had been kidnapped just hours before, and was possibly still alive in the house (he admitted to taking her there and killing her). Oddly enough, originally there were reportedly TWO men in the house at the time. There were also two men seen together when they apparently left a body by the river. Once Ridgway was caught, however, I stopped hearing much about that.

I do think that he knows, at least more than he admits to, he just doesn't want to give them up. I think that the original plea agreement was a very good thing, but if this falls outside of that (it sounds like it does) I don't think that he should get another shot at a similar deal, not at all. Unfortunately, we won't know about all of the victims, and that is awful for their families, but I think that most people would agree that he shouldn't get yet another chance to save himself.

It almost is the best outcome. Because of the original deal, many families have answers that they never would have otherwise. I think that almost everyone knows he hasn't admitted to all of the murders he committed, and he will eventually be executed for one that he didn't plea to. It just will take longer than it would have, but when I think of how painful it would be for the families to never know where their daughters, sisters, or mother are, I am thankful that at least some of them were able to get answers.
