Let's start a new trend. Let's call it "Frankie the pig" and let's put his face everywhere. Then let's introduce "Johnny the Mule" and put his picture everywhere. And then, "Sally the Shrimp." They're so funny and cute, we just have to put stickers on our cars and wear their tee shirts.

Couple of thoughts: People will let their pure intellects dominate in allowing a mosque to be built in a spot of conquest. But they won't vote for a Mormon for president.

Seems like the fitting counterweight to a faith such as Islam, which is about 400 years behind the times at least, is a strong American faith in having a creator and in living in the way that makes us strong and vibrant and virile.

I agree this is a battle for the soul of America. I don't really have a religion but I might start one.

I'll buy it that she's narcissistic. What was supposed to happen, suddenly because she converted, everyon else was supposed to see it as she came to see it? Was she projecting her own Christ complex onto poor Jesus of Nazareth, and somehow it failed to find a carrier wave?

I have alternative beliefs about Jesus too, and I'm not a Christian because I find that my Christian friends and acquaintances reject my beliefs because a minister does not agree. I don't agree with the mainstream because I think they are caught up in memes. Maybe Ann Rice started a really cool vampire meme and when it played out, she tried to make her own Christ meme. In my view, Jesus was trying to teach how not to let Rome, nor traditions, nor the common sensibilities run your life. In rejecting Christianity, Ms. Rice may now be bowing to popular culture because she couldn't sustain her beliefs and her wish to change Christianity on her own.

So her leaving Christianity affects me in a way. I am reaffirmed in my belief that the simple philosophy of Jesus isn't about what you believe, it's about how you live. In that way, I don't really have much care about Ms. Rice's particular word pictures. They're good, and yet they're an artistic statement. If you want to re-do Christ, how about writing a new type of monster? That's my suggestion.

I agree. The building of that mosque isn't for sound reasons, if you're going to think of it reasonably. And if you're going to think of it in a non-rational way, the building of that mosque is just plain conquest.

If there is such an enemy, it is a meme.

You know, I used to argue against gay marriage as if it could somehow be prevented, or as if gay people would give their commitment a name that would let everyone know who and what they were and what the nature of their relationship was, standing proud for being different, respecting the moral tradition that made our society strong. Ha ha ha.

So I've had to simply accept gay marriage, even though I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop calling it "gaymarriage."

What I really want is for people to have something they place faith in, that they are willing to sacrifice for, a stable base for being productive and invested in this country. I'd like more gay people to be conservative, recognizing that there is not enough money for everyone to be on welfare and that people are capable of standing up, building a life and supporting it without being told how to live. So that's where I've ended up. Sorry if I have no perfect philosophy.

Was that Rosie or Garafalo? I'd have really been impressed with their grit and intellect as a naive young person in college. Maybe that's where they stopped.
