3. Since the number of drownings is roughly equivalent to the number of motorcycle deaths, we should require all swimmers to wear life jackets. Or should we allow adults to make their own informed choice? 4. Heart disease kills even more people than motorcycle and auto accidents combined. Shold we outlaw fatty foods? Or should we allow adults to make their own informed choice? Once you start legislating the risk out of life, you are on a slippery slope. Rep. Joe Harrison, R-Napoleonville, Louisiana once wrote: "There are more head injuries for bicycle riders, snow skiers, water skiers, skateboard riders, gymnasts and cheer leaders than there are for motorcycle riders, should we have the state indemnify all of them?" This is still the United States, land of the free, isn't it?

So Crosby, I challenge you to tell us all how wearing a helmet would have prevented this accident? Since the majority of fatal auto accidents are the result of head injuries, why limit the protection of helmets to such a small minority of vehicles. Since the legislators are so worried about saving lives, they could save even more lives by mandating helmets for all auto drivers and passengers. Oh............................., that may not be such a good idea since it affects YOU and your family that would be forced to wear them. This sounds perfectly logical when presented this way, yet when motorcyclists make this argument it is dismissed. While we are on saving lives: 1. We should outlaw cigarettes since they kill far more people than motorcycle accidents. Or should we allow adults to make their own informed choice? 2. We should outlaw alcohol since it kills far more people than motorcycle accidents. (oh, we did try that once, and freedom loving people rose up against those laws. (Sound familiar to the fight against mandatory helmet laws?) Or should we allow adults to make their own informed choice?
