Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU Buffs\' time to run is now - Buffzone

I am predicting that we will not run the ball effectively against Hawaii because that is not what Colorado football is about anymore. Plus, our offensive line sucks. I hope I'm wrong, but there's no logical reason to believe that we'll be able and willing to run the ball with authority. Every good CU team that I can think of has always run the ball effectively, but this staff and group of players seem unwilling and incapable of doing so.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU\'s Hawkins coaching against the odds - Buffzone

I don't believe we will run the ball because Colorado football is not about running the ball anymore. Besides, if our o-line sucks again, how can we run the ball effectively? I wish I wasn't so negative about Buff football, but after what I've seen from Hawk Dawg the past few years and how he does things, there is really no reason to believe that the Buffs will have a decent season until it actually happens. The secondary is getting a lot of hype because on paper, they look pretty good as a whole. However, do people not remember getting rolled last year by piss poor programs such as Toledo? Before the season last year, I was drinking the kool-aid. This year, however, I am not. Instead, I shall pee in the kool-aid and give it to the incompetent one, a.k.a. the Hawk Dawg.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU\'s Hawkins coaching against the odds - Buffzone

I would love to think that the Buffs will have a winning season this year, but as long as Hawk Dawg is at the helm, I don't see it happening. Take last year, for example. I thought the Buffs had enough talent to win at least 6 games, and the way the team ended up performing was embarrasing and inexcusable. Looking at this year's team, I think there would be a lot to be excited about if Hawk Dawg were not the coach. For example, we seem to have some decent WR's now. However, some of them seem a little too fast, so Hawk Dawg will likely opt for guys such as Espy and other gritty, undertalented guys. Super Scotty should be the focal point of the passing game again because of his determination and veteran influence. Hansen's the QB for now, but just as the coaches have been saying all along, Hansen and C-Hawk are actually neck and neck. Therefore, look for C-Hawk to get some playing time sooner or later, even if it's just situational stuff. I guarantee that Hawk Dawg will not allow C-Hawk to stay off the field during his senior season. I would like to think otherwise, but I also believe the o-line will underachieve again because of what I can only assume has to do with coaching.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Sumler leaving CU Buffs - Buffzone

It would be scary to be on this team right now. I don't blame all these guys for transfering. Unless you're a masochist, why would anyone in his right mind want to play for Hawk? I worry about the kinds of guys we're bringing in too. Not to discount the importance of being a student as well as an athlete, but it seems like a lot of the guys that are committing now are fond of saying things like "Golly, Hawk wants me to graduate, what a good guy. I can't wait to get to Boulder to work on my degree." I want fierce guys who are obsessed with football. I'd rather have guys who go to class because they have to. Hawk is going to continue watering down the program the longer he stays.

How is the offensive line not better? They SEEM like they have some good players. How does a guy like Simmons not play a lot more than he did? He's big, fast, and can catch. As a coach of a player like that, find a way to get him heavily involved. My money is on Espy to surpass Simmons and others on the depth chart, and it'll be him and Super Scotty as the first two wideouts because Hawk views them as a couple of gritty sons of guns. Simas will be relegated to the slot.

Sumler never put up great stats, but one of the most frustrating things about this program is that you can never be confident that the coaches are using guys correctly and putting them in positions to help the team. For example, I'd like to believe that we'll have a good passing attack next year. It SEEMS like we could with all the receivers that SEEM talented and with a guy like Hansen at QB. However, I'm sure the coaching staff will find a way to make the offense sucky again.

This makes much more sense. I was wondering why the coaches would even want him to play when it sounds like he'd have a good shot of getting a medical redshirt. I often wonder what Hawk and some of the other CU coaches are thinking.

The Buffzone Blog : In case you missed it, Colorad...

Holy cow! An unranked, 5' 9", 148 lb. receiver who runs a 4.74 40! What a burner! This kid looks like the ultimate diamond in the rough. Maybe he'll take over for Espy someday as our punt returner. Our special teams return units should be in good hands for years to come. Great job Hawk. I'm sure this little guy who plays big was being recruited by powerhouses across the country. Scout didn't have any schools having offered him as of yet, but I'm sure many were about to offer. Good thing we jumped on him first. I would expect nothing less from Hawk than to aggressively recruit and be the first to offer a 5' 9" receiver who runs a 4.74 40. Obviously recruiting rankings don't always tell the whole story, but rivals ranks this guy a 0 star. It appears as though the real reason Hawk offered him was just so he could get Munchie, the QB who happens to be his teammate. Hopefully Munchie is the real deal. I love his name. I just hope he's a good qb as well.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU knocks off No. 17 Kansas - Buffzone

How in the world did it take the Buffs coaches this long to figure out that Tyler Hansen is the guy who should be starting? He has so much more talent than Cody and gives the offense so many more options than Cody does. Honestly, given the fact that these coaches are with these guys everyday in practice, how was it not extremely obvious at a much earlier point in time that Hansen is a much better option than Cody? This troubles me because if something this apparent doesn't jump out to them, we can only imagine all the other fixable things that the coaches fail to pick up on. You don't have to be a football genius to realize after watching this game that Hansen gives us a better chance to win than Cody does.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Kiesau\'s plan: Stick to it : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera

I got so happy inside when I read "The Buffs of 2009 will look nothing like the 2008 version offensively." It is so refreshing that we actually want to establish a two-back, power running game again. Helfrich might do okay at Oregon, but he was awful during his time here. I am extremely glad that he is gone. Yes we had many injuries last year, but he still did a horrible job of play calling and developing offensive formations and game plans for the type of talent that he had. Every great CU team that I can think of has been able to pound the ball down opponents' throats. I think we'll still be able to throw the ball fairly well this year, but we also have what appears to be a deep backfield. Here's to hoping we use it and actually run out of formations that can maximize the talents of our RB's.
