WOODTV.com : MI Survey: What about roundabouts? | WOOD TV8

I really like them! Saves time as you rarely ever have to actually stop. I would assume that they make all collisions very low speed which reduces the liklyhood of injury. The one out in Coopersville is great now that all the drivers, including myself, are used to how it works!

WOODTV.com : GR approves dispatch agreement | WOOD TV8

If they already knew about the situation you were calling about than there is no reason to keep you on and tying up a 911 line. Disconnecting and answering the next call was probably the right thing to do. If you have ever been inside a 911 dispatch center you would see that at times there are numerous 911 calls ringing in at the same time. Your issue was handled and the operator was moving on to the next. A sympathetic and understanding 911 caller would be nice!!!

What I said was that any movie or TV show will show you what happens when you pull a trigger. Nobody has to be trained to know that pulling the trigger makes the gun go off. To answer your silly question, No, TV and movies can not train anyone to safely handle a weapon!

Unless modified, most handguns have at least an 8 lb trigger pull. Triggers don't accidently get pulled, they get pulled because people are careless and stupid! Any TV show or movie teaches you what happens when you pull a trigger, no training needed!

One of the two charges is a civil infraction, similar to a careless driving, and the other is a 93 day misdemeanor! Without any criminal history in the past no citizen in Michigan would get sentenced to even one day in jail for this charge! Unacceptable yes but when he gets no time don't cry corruption.

Additionally, it is not the volts in electricity that harms you, it is the amps. Police tasers have 50,000 volts, but that is not harmful. Amperage is what is deadly. Tasers have less than .02 amps, which is 30 times less than the lethal dosage of .7 amps

I am not going to make any medical statements here because I am not a doctor. What I do know, is that most every officer that carries a Taser has taken the full 5 second Taser hit. I personally know 138 officers that have taken the hit and NOT died, myself included.

WOODTV.com : Mich. holding off on recalling troopers | WOOD TV8

Remember a 24 hr deputy is actually 4 people working 12 hour shifts. Day shift and night shift A squad and day shift night shift B squad. That is the minimum people it takes to cover 24 hrs/7 days a week. Then those contracts include a car and all of its equipment. 100K sounds pretty cheap when you look at what you actually get for the money. ALL county employees are paid for through property tax. The JAIL and its employees are the only ones covered in this new millage you refer too, not road patrol. Road patrol comes out of the general fund. Look at what the KCSD Jail guards get paid. They make more than the road patrol Deputies and Detectives!!! They are the highest paid jail guards in the Eastern U.S. MSP Rockford runs with around 15 Troopers. Do you think the State could afford to put 170 Troopers in Rockford to cover Kent County without raising tax somewhere? I don't! Cant afford to have any less. KCSD puts out between 14 and 16 cars per shift to cover a population of 500,000 in the county. They need more deputies as it stands now.

Kent County has the second larges Sheriff Department in the state (2nd to Oakland County)and they only have roughly 170 road patrol deputies and detectives. MSP is counted in thousands, or maybe only one thousand, I don't know. Eliminate MSP road patrol you eliminate salary, benefits, training, equiptment, vehicles, maintainance, Posts and the cost to run one. Possibly could easily fund 2 to 1 and have lots of money to spare. Counties like Oceana, Newaygo and Wexford are have only 30, or less, Deputies. (Not counting jail staff) How many troopers patrol these same counties 2, 5, 10?? I agree this is something that will never, ever occur, but think about it. It is a repetion of service! We need MSP to become focused on high tech crime solving. CID! They are the ONLY department in the state that provides these services. DNA, Trace evidence, hair and fiber identification. This is where they are needed! In my humble opinion!!!!

Another idea, eliminate all MSP road patrols. Direct that money to county Sheriff Offices. Most counties you could hire 2 deputies for the same cost as one trooper. Use the money saved to reform the MSP Central Intellegence Divisions, DNA, Latent Prints, Computer Forensics, ect. CID is where we need MSP's expertise. 6 month back log on DNA and 10 months on computer analysis is unacceptable. MSP is not what it used to be, just ask any retiree and he or she will tellyou the same.

WOODTV.com : Prosecutors offer Ghent deal | WOOD TV8

Think it through for just a moment! Charged with a 15 yr (Unlawful Imprisonment) and a possible life offense (Kidnapping across state lines). Offer is to drop the 15 year if you plea to the life offense!!! Really!!!! That offer in itself should tell you the the pros. has a great case and has really offered nothing! Sounds more like an invitaion to trial to me! If the case was weak the life offense would most likely be dropped in exchange for a plea to the 15 yr. I have no doubt that Ghent's confession had a hand in the prosecutor offering him this plea agreement.

Aggrevated Domestic.... Another serious offense, 1yr misdemeanor. Even Agg. Domestic 2nd offense is only a 2 year Felony. Remember those are max. sentences. Better pile those "serious" charges on!! Your "AN OFFICER CAN MAKE A WARRANTLESS ARREST" is preceeded by, "in cases of domestic violence." How else do you expect that to be read.
Probably because DV is a 93 day misdemeanor! I think the life offense and the 15yr unlawful arrest have it covered! It is obvious that you read a lot of law but is is very clear you have never applied any of what you post in real life. Most every arrest made is warrantless! If probable cause exists that a crime was committed the person is arrested. The warrant isn't obtained until later, usually the next morning, just before the arraingment. Examples, bank robber gets caught walking down the street shortly after the robbery, he is arrested. Guy steals from Meijer and is held by loss prevention, he is arrested. Warrant is obtained later, before the arraingment! You aren't as smart as you think you are!
