I'm running behind on the watch through, so I haven't actually rewatched this episode yet. Instead, I'll say what I remember feeling when I first watched it as a kid.

I was fascinated, enchanted, and horrified. I have a great fondness for learning about long fictional histories, so I loved learning more about the B5 lore. At the same time, the Great Burn induced a sense of dread over the futility and the idea that anything we build will eventually be torn down or fade away. Even the discussions of a hundred years in the future gave me that sense of the descruction of time (descruction of truth and reputation in that case). Of course, the episode ends affirming that what the B5 crew did mattered. Still, the steps leading up to it hurt.

When I first watched this episode aged 10 or 11, I got frustrated everytime Franklin's scenes interrupted the awesome space battle. I'm glad I'm rewatching at an age when I can properly appreciate Franklin's story and Richard Biggs' acting.

While I love this episode, and especially the White Star's mission, I had to laugh at Marcus implying that the Ranger camp was doomed without B5's help and saying, "We have the means if you have the will." I mean, there are surely Rangers who have will and the ability to captain a starship? I'd have been happy with him saying something along the lines of: "You are a very good starship captain and we want the best for this mission."

It looks like everyone was unimpressed with Kosh's special effects. I'm a bit surprised; I think it looked about as good as everything else on the show (obviously effects, but good for their time and serviceable now).

I'm continually surprised by how much Sheridan can get away with without being ousted by the Clark admin (I get that he technically follows the rules, but you can still be removed for political reasons). I wonder if there have been internal fights in EarthGov and the military about the situation, with Hague compatriots and others not loyal to Clark managing to talk the administration down.

Fully agree on the embarrassment factor. I skip that, "sex," scene every time and will absolutely never watch it in future, though I do enjoy knowing that it exists.

If any of y'all are familiar with Jeff Russell's Starship Dimensions website (spoilers found there), seeing the Cortez next to Babylon 5 and the other Earth ships always surprised me; it felt too big to be able to be an active ship (not that that size difference actually matters that much in space.

I was pleased by the quick, tidy plot resolution. It just shows that a bad situation can sometimes be easily remedied if people communicate.

While I've seen the series multiple times, this was only my second time watching The Gathering. As I wasn't impressed watching it the first time, I didn't expect much this time; it was just about as stiff and clunky as I remember. Anyway, notes:

1: G'Kar needs to learn how to take his time when proposing military alliances and strategic inseminations.

2: Takashima: I've been breaking the rules for the past year by growing coffee.
Takashima, two second later: I haven't broken the rules in years; learning to do things by the book is an integral part of my backstory.

3: Kosh's suit knocked over on the floor amused me.

I know my notes are kind of taking digs at the show. I promise I love B5, but The Gathering is easy to mock, and the good things I have to say about it are too spoiler-y.
