You do not need to go back to 3.1.2. If your iPhone is already jailbroken at 3.1.3, you should be able to use PwnageTool 4.0. I only went back to 3.1.2 because that's the only 3.1.X version of firmware i have on my MacBook Air and i wanted a quick jailbreak of 3.1.2 using RedSn0w (which i believe only works up to 3.1.2 and not 3.1.3) instead of the longer processing using PwnageTool for 3.1.2/3.1.3. Yes, right now, my iPhone 3GS is already on iOS 4.0 and jailbroken :) I have not yet tried the ultrasn0w unlock.

No, your iPhone must be jailbroken before you can go ahead with PwnageTool 4.0. You will need to jailbreak your iPhone at 3.1.3 first.

Finally i can restore the custom firmware created by PwnageTool 4. When i read about the requirement for jailbreaking iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3GS with old bootrom, i thought the requirement for "previously jailbroken" meant the iPhone must be jailbroken at some point in the past. What it actually means is your iPhone 3GS must already be jailbroken prior to restoring the custom firmware created by PwnageTool. When Apple released the beta versions of iOS 4, i installed all the betas and eventually iOS 4.0 GM. So my iPhone was not jailbroken. So everytime i attempted to restore the iOS 4.0 custom firmware, i would get either the 1600 error or the 1604 error. I must have tried at least 10 times!!! This is what i did to make it work: - restore iPhone back to factory 3.1.2 (your iPhone SHSH must be stored on Saurik's server for this to work) - jailbreak 3.1.2 with RedSn0w 0.9.2. - create custom firmware with latest PwnageTool 4 - put iPhone in recovery mode - restore custom firmware

PwnageTool 4.0 does not appear to recognize iOS 4.0 GM downloaded from Apple's developer site. Use the publicly available iOS 4.0 instead.

Antiwar.com Original Articles : US Turns Blind Eye to Israel's New Separation Policy

@ Sammy_249: Are you living in some fantasy world? The last i check, Israel is still occupying West Bank and Jewish settlements are still peppered all over the occupied territory. If Israel is treating Palestine as an independent state, why is it still controlling the border surrounding West Bank, the air above West Bank, the water under West Bank, and sending Jews to settle all over West Bank? And why is 60% of West Bank still under Israeli control if Israel is treating Palestine like an independent state? In your fantasy world, if West Bank (as in east of the Green line) is part of the Palestinian independent state, your argument that "independent nations do not generally let foreigners cross their borders in a willy-nilly, unregulated fashion" certainly makes perfect sense.

Ok, i finally got my iPhone (EDGE) updated to 3.0 beta without a need for my device to be registered in Apple's iphone developer site. Thanks to ArB at the hackint0sh.org forum for suggesting this method: I did the following with iPhone connected to iTunes (8.1) in windows XP. My Mac started to give me crap after i "accidentally" chose to restore instead of update to 3.0 and since then, i have not been able to make Quickpwn (Mac) to see my iPhone. - Put iPhone in DFU mode - Restore 2.0.2 firmware (i restored it from a state of half-broken 3.0 install) - Run Quickpwn (the RC3 version - other versions may work but this is what i used) and use it to re-activate and jailbreak the iphone, which is now on 2.0.2 - In iTunes, select "update" or "upgrade" (press shift + left click) and select the 3.0 IPSW image. I do not know if this matters but my T-Mo SIM was in the iPhone during the update. - When the update is completed, iphone should remain activated. I do not think you need to register your iPHone's UDID at apple's iphone dev site for this to work.

After i restored to 3.0, i could no longer bring it back down to 2.2.1. How did you restore your phone back to 2.2.1? I attempted to restore back to 2.2.1 using Pwnagetool. Should i have used the non-pwned 2.2.1 firmware from Apple for the restore? As iTunes was about to apply the restore of the pwned 2.2.1 firmware, it errored out. Should i just ignore the error and use quickpwn to activate it?

By "not activated", i meant iPhone now recognizes that my T-Mo SIM is not a valid carrier, even though i can see the T-Mobile carrier icon and the signal strength bar. The only thing that i can do with my T-Mo SIM card inserted is the emergency dial screen. Removing the T-Mo SIM card allows all, except phone, capabilities of iPhone. So in effect, it's like an iPod Touch.

Your iPhone has an unique number called UDID. This number must be registered as a test device on Apple's iphone developer site. I am guessing it will expire like the 2.0 beta. So far,i have not been able to revert back to 2.X.
