KATU - Portland, OR : Beaverton church sues family after they criticize it online | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland

The thing is that the pastor can tell the church members to shun Ms. Smith but ultimately it is up to the individual to actually act in such a manner. Basically, if anyone is dumb enough to do whatever they are told regardless of moral/ethical beliefs, then they are not worth knowing. If Pastor Charles O'Neal was confident in his church and teachings then he would not have to turn his entire congregation against the few that left and then file suit because someone dared to voice their dissatisfaction. Hope she counter-sues and wins.

Doesn't take a crystal ball, just reading carefully. Also, not being so quick to "make a point" to most peoples comments. I believe that quality of the comments is more important than quantity.

No kidding. Please, read a post thoroughly before attacking. If you read the comments on the first story about this case that came out yesterday you will find many comments did make the excuse of consensual sex, but I am obviously being sarcastic when I refer to a "play of the consensual sex card". Hope this clarifies it for you.

A 16 year old Boy should not be trying to molest a 7-year-old girl and trying to rape an adult relative, not normal behavior. Now he is 19 and has raped a 14 yr. old. Many will play the consensual sex card but this is obviously not the case with this individual. Based on his prior convictions, he should never have been allowed in the general school population or within 500ft. of a business or organization that cares for children. Is this not what they do with pedophiles?

Well said. I was married the week I turned 18 to my boyfriend of 1 yr. and he was 3 1/2 years older then me. Side note: I was not pregnant and finished out high school. A senior in high school is really no longer a child and if you look at most high schools, these days, many of these students already have their own children (unfortunately).

Majority of "colds" are viral and should not be treated with antibiotics, as this is what has caused so many drug resistant super bugs. Also, it would not be cost effective to test everyone who came in with symptoms of a upper respiratory infection. The article should have giving out information that all adults should make sure they have been vaccinated for pertussis and that this is done in combination with the tetanus/diphtheria (Tdap) booster that we should all have every 10 years.

While it is true that grandparents have no rights when the parents are involved, the article states that he plans to give the money to the other 2 children that are now in foster care. If he was really concerned for his grandchildren's welfare he should be caring for them himself or with the help of other family members and not leaving them in the foster care system.

My child went to Harmony in the years reported and we also had formal bullying reports made that are not listed. Mrs Horn (Principal) addressed the episodes, at that time, in a satisfactory fashion but the record is not accurate. I think it is important, because when I moved here 8 years ago I researched the area and built my house based on the schools my children would attend. Suffice to say, the schools have not met my expectations based on all "published" reports.

My boy goes to Pacific Middle and I gave him boxing lessons this last weekend. He has a bully that just pops out of the woodwork to call him names (not a big deal) or trip and push him and then run away (bigger deal). He does not have any classes with this kid or even knows his last name, nor was there any initial conflict. I have tried to teach the classic turn the other check and walk away stance but the only thing that worked when I was a kid was to take action. My son is now ready and has my permission and 100% support to protect himself physically if need be.

You are truly clueless as to what you even wrote in the first place. You are the one that does not want to "blame" these kids, as it will "create more evil". Go back and read your own postings, as you brought up the "love" these kids apparently need and not the punishment that the majority of us believe this crime deserves. Apparently you "like to party" too much based on how your argument has held together over the last 12 hours.

It is people like you that make this a blameless society, an excuse to act any way you want because you were not given enough love. Stardancer makes an excellent point with her experience in that the parents need to open their eyes and see what their children are doing. My son has been talked into playing with fire but was severely punished for doing so. He was also educated about why this was a bad idea and possible consequences. Basically, I am showing my love by disciplining my child, so that the judicial system will not have to when he is older.

Based on their behavior I would be hard pressed to think that these boys come from stable/productive families. So, returning them unpunished to their homes is hardly going to suddenly inspire them to become law abiding, non-rebelous, worthwhile members of society. Also, arson is hardly a "kids' prank". Thirteen years old, especially these days, is old enough to know better. Time to scare a bit of sense into these two.

KATU - Portland, OR : Sex offender changes name, rejoins gym where abuse occurred | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland

March 3, 2006- PORTLAND, Ore. - "Tyler Lupoli, the fitness club employee who was convicted of molesting four children in the club's daycare center, received a lengthy prison sentence Friday. Lupoli was sentenced to a total of 137 months in prison, less seven months served during his trial. That comes out to over 11 years behind bars. Lupoli plead innocent at his trial, but surveillance camera footage of him improperly touching four girls between three and eight convinced the jury otherwise. The families of the victims were hoping for a sentence of over 20 years. A mother of one of the victims told reporters after the sentencing that society is giving offenders like Lupoli too many chances." Seems to me that KATU can't get the facts straight even when they published an article at the time of the crime. What happened to basic fact checking? He was convicted of molesting young children and should he be prohibited from being within a certain specified area of kids, as a condition of parole? Being in any facility with a child care center should be in violation of his parole and he should be immediately arrested and back in jail to serve out the remainder of the original sentence.

Agree completely. The foster care system is extremely flawed and that I would not wish that life on any child. The percentage of foster children that have any semblance of a normal, loving childhood is extremely low and that should be addressed first and foremost. Giving them a tuition free college education just does not make any sense at all. If a child does not have a supportive, loving upbringing what are the chances that they will graduate high school, let alone go on to college.

Wow Dadof3, maybe you would be making more than 20-50K a year if you actually could read and understand the section about the taxes, as it is not a "break" for us. Why, exactly should I pay for you in any way shape or form? I did not come from wealth but was taught to work hard and not give up. I worked two jobs, raised my kids, and put myself through years of college and now paying back for years my college loans. I have taught my children, by example, that they can achieve anything reasonable that they set their minds toward and work for. Having a strong work ethic and struggling hard along the way to achieve your goals makes you "rich" in more ways than just monetary. Give it a try instead of expecting those who have to give it to you.
