i hate to clarify for the nth time but i still would! People working in companies and deploying a piece of software called OS aren\\'t fool enough to leave a box compromised esp when they are responsible and committed for what they deliver.. Security isn\\'t a soring issue, it is not everyday that your pc sitting there compromised and you say ok let me shift to an Open Source OS because it is more secure. If you can understand between the words you would realize what was being tried to say there, Don\\'t start another dog fight over the security of Operating Systems, Students aren\\'t going to deploy server os daily..!

Hello buddy, this post is not abt Microsoft Vs Apple Vs Linux! It\\'s neither about Open Source OSs its about your attitude for Open Source. What have you done with it? You consider using Ubuntu a great achievement? Big deal.. Have you contributed to it in any way, what is open source for u??? If you are a true computer geek i feel you must be comfortable in using any operating system rather than being discriminative about it.

Thanks for the link on ycombinator, but i shall not agree to your point on \\"Getting things done\\". You haven\\'t used windows properly is what i think. I use vista 24/7/365 and have hosted all sorts of web servers and other dev tools without any hassles!

Thanks for the enlightening words towards open source. You have very well given many strong arguments in favour of open source but i feel you have missed your point at some places.
By and large you are still limiting the war to the operating systems, so my point that the majority is still using windows stays good! Since you\\'ve always been digged into using ubuntu, i think you have not bothered to try out the same thing in windows. The advantage is that, if we make some thing innovative on windows, it gets to be used by a vast majority of people, and yet again i think you haven\\'t heard of the .NET Framework and it\\'s prowess. I can very well code for any feature or download a tool or hire someone to do it for me, run it on my windows machine for free! Why do i need to look into the source code for it? For the record i think more tools are available on the windows platform as the number of users is tremendously huge.
We can have a separate Windows Vs Linux discussion some other point of the time, but what i feel is that, since it is a product and you can\\'t set a minimum geek level for people to use. they need out of box simplicity, not fiddle around for small things and tearing apart their hairs! I\\'ve used linux for my daily work back in college and i just so didn\\'t like it! I think it\\'s an imitation of most of the windows features, that too wrongly done! Let it be my opinion, but i will not prefer to work on linux cos it has lotsa hassles. I love using the keyboard and i have IronPython, PowerShell scripting with me to do all the work i need to on windows..
Your post had most negatives about microsoft, and i\\'m once again iterating as why the whole company is being targeted?? The idea is to explore the goods and bads, not the ideology. For a common sense POV the OS esp windows, comes with least default settings so that a naive user can use it effectively. It can be customized to any level to your choice, i\\'ve done it and i\\'ve never had any isses with security or my private data on windows. On a lighter note, if windows dind\\'t have the issues you mentioned, do you have any idea how many child companies will lose market and get bankrupt?
I like the idea of having the source code open, it shows lotsa of creativity and exposure to enormous information and knowledge, and as students we must look at the source code and gain knowledge, it is not the time to say some thing is good or bad or what not! You drifted to the same thing again, OPEN SOURCE RULES, OPEN SOURCE ROCKS., i like that kind of passion but then such attitude makes me feel you supporters SUCK! Reason..- In my opinion the idea of open source is beyond the operating systems, it is about creativity, it is about ideas it is about doing good to the society. I think a true open source supporter won\\'t have negatives for any of the operating systems!
Microsoft for the record isn\\'t behind the times, infact with such a vast portfolio it is one of the few giants which are able to survive, and what is wrong in making students use the nice sofwares available? I bet you haven\\'t worked with the productivity softwares made by them? HAve you heard of dreamspark? You only worry for paying microsoft the tax right? OK Don\\'t pay, it can still make money without your tax, they are instead offering you free dvd\\'s with all the softwares you will ever need to make the world a better place. Have you heard of MSDN? Have you seen articles at codeproject? I think you haven\\'t done your part of research for Microsoft and it\\'\\'s goodness. Please do it and come back, it is a huge and great, and yeah it is a community, right coming from the people who made it! Have you heard of AZURE? The cloud computing platform? Nope i guess you haven\\'t..
You are talking about failure of Vista and Me, how many failures on the record are there in the open source platform? I have not heard of many flavours still being there in the market! SUN for all the companies Closed! They just couldn\\'t sustain it, and you are saying our just two of the OS are bad!

To close i will again ask, if ubuntu is so simple, (i\\'m not being sarcastic - your mom is using it too, congrats, though my mom likes vista and Win7 as well!) why oh why isn\\'t it there everywhere? And as soon as i install a copy of it some one is going to add a fix and i will have to update it again, i\\'ve experienced it myself.. To make some abc software which will not run on my build xxxx-yyyy-1234 but will run on build xxxx-yyyy-4321, so i must upgrade! Windows on the other hand is stable once it releases, we don\\'t ask our people to keep updating things daily!
Oops i forgot to mention security - I have never had a crash, i have never been hacked! I run windows. Imagine if windows was tad insecure wouldn\\'t it have automatically been thrown off the shelf by people? Open your eyes, the world is lot different as you see it.
I have no contempt feeling nor am taking any revenge back on your post, i really loved your comment and it is what a true open source fan should be like, but i think it asks for more.. It is beyond what you think..
