I hope you didn't have a job that was critical to the health and welfare of others. It is hard to imagine how you would do a good job when you can't read or write. I don't mean to insult you but when you claim to have had an important job it raises questions Example PEPIL is actually spelled PEOPLE Example: Power as in Power Plant is nor spelled POEWER Example: Volume NOT VOLUEM and HAVE not HAEV If you continue to spell that way you will DEFINATELY (NOT defnitaley) have problems in life.....By the way RhinestoneCOWBOY NOT rinestoncoweboy but my guess is you mispell on purpose because I don't think anyone who appears to be as illiterate as you probably could not figure out how to log on to a computer to begin with....

There is plenty of evidence pointing to this type of violence being a precursor to violence against people when these offenders get older. It seems as if they start out with animals and build up to humans. I hope they sentence him to a great deal of counseling as I would hate to see him reappear in the news later after hurting or killing someone

Its wont smell so bad when the rich get more free money to fund their pet projects. When they have bled the fed,the state and the local charities and tax sources dry then can buy a great big bottle of Fabreeze and spray it all around town and it will smell real purty plus you must remember they can't smell it out to Elmcrest anyway

lets see.hmmmm. The dairy left the west side, the central firestation left the west side. Norwood pencil left the entire city...........sounds like someone knew more than they were telling a LONG time ago. The people (neighborhood bars mostly) who did come back did so at great financial risk to themselves. I don't know how anything can be built that will Please everyone but I do believe that the Flood of 2008 will happen again and sooner than most people want to think or believe. That was not just a fluke. Look around and watch the news and you will see that weather patterns are changing and we have been poor managers of our resources for far too long.It is now biting us in the backside

I also asked the Corp rep who is a BioChemical engineer ( I think that is what he referred to himself as) about the dangers of the wather from Cedar lake being diverted into homes. It seems as if they are going to force the water into the lake and then it will be pushed past the new "east side protection system" back into the chanel and perhaps back onto t he west side. The report states that the Cedar Lake is not worth protecting as it is full of PCB,S and Chlordane. So if they build a levee that protects Quaker and the world famous downtown Cedar Rapids that hazordous water will be sent with much force back to the west side and into all the remaining homes. I have asked the Corp for an answer to that question and they have assured me that they will. We can all guess but I prefer to see the answers come from people who know rather than people who like to guess

The cost benefit ratio was adequate preflood to allow the Corp to come up with a protection system of some sort. I believe that the Councils decision combined with advice from some local movers and shakers and even some advice from the local non-profits to stop reconstruction in the "construction zone" probably had the effect to reduce the Cost to benefit ration below the required level. That will be another interesting question that the Corp will be able to answer on Sept 21. If that is true then the council members who voted to take the advice of private "movers and shakers" should be hel accountable. It seems odd that some of those homes that were denied assistance and even permits will now be "given" to some of the people who originally recommended they not be given help. If that is proven to be true then I believe legal action must be taken.

If the Corp does 4C instead of the city council's "preferred plan" my understanding after talking with a member of the Corp is that it will raise the potential level on the west side by 1 foot. That would put the next flood event out to about 18th street I believe. As the circle gets bigger more homes will be damaged and therefore the loss will be much greater. If there is no provision to protect the west side then the Corp should not protect the east side. Let nature deliver the water wherever it takes it rather than diverting more of it to the west side. I look forward to hearing more of the details at the Sept 21 meeting as I certainly am no expert. I did however take the time to contact the Corp to see about the ramifications of protecting downtown while ignoring the west side.

Yes we should be worried about the trickle down effect and never mind the kids who drink too much....like the young man from Ames who drank and stumbled into a building and died...Good thing they finally found his BODY so his parents at least have some closure....Grow up all of you. The only reason people are complaining is because young people want to drink before thye should...Plain and Simple. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with their concern about the well being of the businesses or the owners. It hasnt changed since I went to college in the 1960,s Young people want the right of passage and they beleive moving to college should include getting drunk, acting stupid and puking on a city street

Maybe we should just get rid of all laws and then think how much money we could save on salaries for policemen and judges . We could save enough to pay for detox for all the college students whose only goal in going to college is to alter their minds through the use of substances rather than books
