Oh and I just remembered the line (and lovely Leslie's delivery of) "I'm not standing still / I'm lying in wait" and nearly cried. SO GOOD. I never expected to this overcome by this musical but here we are. lol

Same! SAAAAAAME! Both songs!

Lines like "I am the one thing in life I can control", "It's full of contradictions! / So is independence!", "Why do you write like you're running out of time?", and the refrain of "Love/Death/Life doesn't discriminate / it takes and it takes and it takes / and we keep loving/living anyway" just make feel every feeling all at once. And Non-Stop, the sheer energy that it builds into, the beautiful call-backs to earlier songs layered into the verses (especially the "wait for it" echo). The first time I heard it, I felt breathless. Both songs leave me weeping every time (I'm a horrible sap). Burn is another ("Your sentences left me defenseless / You built me palaces out of paragraphs / you built cathedrals", "I'm erasing myself from the narrative!", "The world has no right to my heart!" UGGGGH THE FEELS) but those two definitely stand out as, like you said, haunting.

I always know that winter is properly arrived when my dad starts saying "It was/is/has been butt-ass cold" any time he describes the weather.

This is such a lovely surprise to find today! I'd been missing your horoscopes from the Rumpus and was hoping they'd pop up again in some form and now you're here! Your writing is always such a comfort so I'm delighted you'll have a new home at the Toast. :)

And if you were wondering, yes, this month's horoscope (Pisces) was exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thanks. *gets reckoning*

I snorted so hard I hurt my face when I read "Giles Corey, bench press". XD

Lots of good quotes in the comments too!

I wish I had quotes to share for motivation. When I start feeling pain (usually with planks or squats), I start laughing for some reason. My mister is both endeared and unsettled by it. Maybe it's a subconscious distraction thing or maybe my brain just snaps and goes "how weird that we're doing this, making our body uncomfortable on purpose" but it helps. I come from a long line of Laughers. Regular giggle fits: the only way I can explain my abs staying solid after months without strenuous exercise.

Inherent value in bridges. Yes.

Mixed Latina here and, while our childhood experiences don't overlap entirely, dear god I know this. Beautiful cutting stuff.
Thanks for sharing.

Painfully accurate! I don't know whether to punctuate that statement with a smiley or frowny face.

My reaction precisely. I am now eating my dinner very slowly because I keep having to laugh around mouthfuls of stir fry at both the article and the comments.
