Image in a couple hundred years, English not existing anymore. It must be very hard for people of the culture. It would sadden me to know that my native language and my history have been lost forever. I feel like these are the things we should concentrate on and protect. Just as the extinct animal preservations, the languages should be preserved as well. Our culture would benefit from learning, become more interested, and be even more distinguished. Being the political leader he is though, he could have used a better metaphor. It is not that I think that all people on welfare are animals because I know some pretty decent ones. The town I am from I would say close to 40% of the people are on welfare, some animals and some not. I know what it’s like to not have money and live in this economy today and not am able to find a job. It’s hard, but that does not mean you stop trying. My view is, millions of people go to work every day and the taxes taken from our pay are given to some of the lazy people on welfare. As a matter of fact, I bought my uncle a bumper sticker for his lunch box that says “I go to work every day so the people on welfare can eat.” That statement has a lot of truth to it. I worked in a grocery store and have dealt with food stamps and WIC and cash assistance before. I see the people that came through my line and noticed they all seem the same. All had the same mannerisms, looked the same, and most of the time had many kids that they themselves could not afford to take care of on their own. The things they bought with tax payer’s money were ridiculous. I wonder if the government knows of such things. I have seen money used for cigarettes and alcohol, and who’s to say that it wasn’t used for anything else, if you know what I mean. I do not mind helping out people that are in need, but I have to draw a line somewhere. If I were in charge of welfare and could make up some ruled, these are some I would enforce. First, you must show that if you are able to work, that you are trying to get a job. This would include showing resumes, work applications, interview status and so on. I only like to help people that are trying to help themselves. Heck if I did not care about myself I could live on food stamps for the rest of my life and never lift a finger. Second, I would not allow giving out any cash. That money is used for things that it shouldn’t be. Like instead of food they buy cigarettes. Lastly, I know this sounds weird, but I would regulate the amount of children they can have. If they do not have enough of their own money to support them, they should not be allowed to raise a child, especially in those conditions. I know it was nine years but it was a tragedy that is still burned into the memory of most Americans. If I was on that plane I would rather take the precautions than have another attack. This situation goes both ways. This Jewish boy could have been more sensitive to the fears and thoughts of Americans who have seen such tragedy before. But also, Americans should be more sensitive to other cultures and traditions. It’s kind of sad that some people cannot even practice their religion in front of others without casting a fear in them. I cherish more things and the things I choose not to cherish I sacrifice to people that would cherish them. I think less of myself needing, which is actually wanting, and think that the money I could have spent is better put to use helping someone less fortunate than me. This could have forced him to say such unimaginable thing. He needs the viewers, and I feel his comments were stated to cause an uproar and publicity for himself. To say such things as the Haitians were cursed by a “pact with the devil” is like saying that everyone working in the world trade center on September 11, 2001 made the same pact. The thought of it is obscene. For someone that calls himself a preacher it brings shame to the title and caused embarrassment for others that call themselves preachers. Shouldn’t he be praying and leading others in prayer for the safety and compassion of the Haitian people. Has Robertson seen videos or photos of the devastation? Any human being in their right mind would be interested in helping and mourning for the people rather than blaming them. The Haitian people would surely not make a pact to completely destroy their nation and people. Also, a preacher believes in God and the Devil as opposing forces. He states the Haitians made a pact from the devil to keep the French away. The thing that throws me off is that Robertson is claiming that Haiti was on the devil’s side, in the devil’s army so to speak. The question is why the devil would create such a devastation that would demolish his army. Wouldn’t he need this army in fighting the followers of God and on the day of his “return”? The devil would not sacrifice his servants. In a world of many different beliefs wouldn’t the devil need a sufficient group standing behind him. I know if I was the devil and Haiti made this so called “pact” with me I would treasure my servants and keep them from harm let alone cause them harm. Even if the statement about the pact being made is true, the cause stated by Robertson makes no sense. No good can come from the devil causing the earthquake. If anything it would make it worse for “him.” The people of Haiti are going to see the compassion and love of everyone around the world helping. All this love has been influenced in many beliefs except for evil. Haitians will feel the love of community. This catastrophe has shown everyone that even when every country has their own problems (war, economic struggles, etc.) we all can still come together in a time of need. Haiti being the one of the absolute poorest country is about to feel very rich. Rich not because of money but because of love, help, compassion, and aid from many countries around the world. Robertson who is supposed to be encouraging Godly ways is doing the complete opposite. He has no right to say that Haiti has been self inflicted by that earthquake.
