Terra, my deepest sympathy goes out to you, other family members and everyone else who is effected by this. For some reason this story is stuck in my head. I feel as if I know them. I guess it's a biker thing. You have that connection with other bikers. When my boyfriend returned home, he told me he might sell his bike after witnessing the incident. He was really shook up. I had to have a long talk with him. Many soldiers make the wrong decisions. Soldiers receive safety briefings at least once or more every week and the biggest thing is SAFETY. Vehicle expections are also conducted at least once a month to ensure the soldier's vehicle is up to standard. I believe if his breaks were a problem, then he would have had some kind of indication earlier. THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT IN THE END. Helmets saves lives to a certain point. But the impact this couple encounterred, the helmet didn't matter. What about the area the helmet doesn't cover, like the internal organs? It takes more than a helmet such as impact jackets and the rest of the proper gear. Most of all, it is EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DRIVE RESPONSIBLE AND BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS. All we can do is pray. God bless!!!!
My boyfriend was there and he saw the whole thing. Those 2 cars sped past him going about 80+ miles. They almost rear ended him. He was mad. He yelled out those fools are gonna kill someone. Then he saw both cars get in the middle lane. Then one went left and the other went right. The one that went right didn't see the couple on the motorcyle and rear ended them. The car slid a long ways. The guy said his brakes went out and he sweared to God he wasn't speeding and everyone told him he was lying. My boyfriend asked if he was in the army and the guy said yes, then he told him to call his supervisor because he wasn't going anywhere. He just stood there looking at the pieces of rubbish everywhere as if it didn't faze him. It wasn't until he saw my boyfriend along with other witnesses render first aid on the couple. Once the white sheets were thrown on the couple, he really started bawling. This couple was just cruising along on their bike. I know people speed on their bikes all the time. I am also a bike rider, but I ride safe and I have to be the eyes for others who don't see me. Please pray for everyone that is involved.
