Boulder Mountain fire does a fine job when it comes to being a good neighbor as a fire district. It is not their responsibility to assign themselves to certain areas during an incident. It is merely the fault of the incident command that engines were sitting in staging and outside of the district, dozens at the justice center, without sending them up the canyon. It is debatable anyway how much they could have done due to the conditions. The story of the firefighter who supposedly only protected his own house is absolutely bogus. He did no such thing. I know because I was there. But I understand that after a disaster such as this one people create rumors and stories out of bits and pieces of information. It is not true for several reasons. That the Four Mile district is keeping donations is a shame. It was obvious at the beginning that it will be the case since the fire is named after their canyon and district. I can't blame them however. With a smaller taxbase to deal with in the near future it is important to keep whatever you can get in terms of funds. But it is true that Four Mile has caused some irritation since the fire in the way they present themselves in the aftermath of the fire and even their mitigation crew which has done some questionable work. Also incorrect is that Sunshine firefighters didn't go tot he Left Hand Canyon fires. I know that they at least sent one firetruck with personnel. There continues to be this idea that now the districts are on their own and they don't help each other anymore. That is not true either. If anything That the Four Mile fire district had a firetruck that was not ready to respond (out of water) is a shame and that should have consequences. However, mistakes are made at times and by the time they got there the fire was too big to be handled by one truck anyway. This was a disaster and only "stuff" was destroyed. Everyone is fortunate to be alive, there could have easily been a fatality. But since there wasn't we need to get over it and move on.
