I created my custom ipsw on VMware running MAC OS then used it with Redsn0w on windows to upgrade my iphone 4 from 4.0.1 to 4.1 then unlocked with Ultrasn0w. My friends get "out of coverage/phone off" very often when they call me and the battery drain is unimaginable....im thinking about moving back to 4.0.1 ill appreciate it if any one knows how and if the method is still doable, it'll save me some search

I just got an iPhone 4 factory loaded with firmware 4.0.2. I used Pawnage Tool 4.1.2 to make my customized 4.1 firmware. But iTuens (Latest-10.0.1) gives me an unknown error (1600) while restoring. An online search suggested to delete all the files inside "C:Documents and Settings_my user name_Application Data_Apple Computer_iTunes_iPhone Software Updates" But i still get the "unknown error (1600)" any suggestions..??

Thx for reply salukhan. Im starting to see it's common on iphone4 when trying to dig finding a solution to my problem, but id like to try if i could fix it via restore before retuning the phone to Apple. i did add that string already, isnt it "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" to my host file?. But i still get the 3194 error on iTunes( tried it on 10 and 9.2). Will going to 4.0.2 then returning back to 4.0.1 help initiate the restore or will doing so upgrades my baseband and thus loosing the ability to unlock!?!

I have an iPhone4 16GB with 4.0.1 factory loaded. I JB and unlocked the phone but the camera has a problem, the real time view freezes in a few seconds and cannot do anything further with the cam app until i kill it. Now i am trying to restore 4.0.1 hoping that will fix the problem but i keep getting error 3194 on iTunes. I have SHSH 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 saved by Cydia. Help Please.

I'm also looking for a soft-solution to resolve the problem. the problem is solved by removing and reinserting the sim but whenever i restart the phone i lose my data connection with my service provider.

Not in the US. I JB and unlocked my iphone 4 with AT&T sim (4.0.1). couldn't see the Cellular Data Network tab first but then after i replaced my hand-cut sim into the phone and installed SBsettings the Cellular data Network tab was there. My carrier in the About screen is "Carrier 7.0". I entered my APN correctly, my 3G is off , data switch enabled, i see the E or the dot on the top left but i get a "no internet connection" message whenever trying to access the internet. Help please

I am on 3.1.2 jailbroken and my 3gs had a sound problem that i thought about restoring. I used the Shift+Restore on iTunes to use my "custom" ipsw file created by the pawnage tool again which i had used when upgrading to 3.1.2 in the first place. But i am getting an error message from iTunes (The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured [1604]) the bad part is that my iphone is stuck at the "restore" stage. ideas please.

It happens when the sound is switched ON. earphone jack is pretty clean. Could it be that internal circuitry was damaged the phone was dropped on the ground twice from 4 feet high?

I just upgraded to 3.1.2 an hour ago and never used DFU mode. Only through Restore mode. search online to make sure you are really in Restore mode when your custom IPSW file is ready. i personally dont like to use blackra1n, ive heared some programs didnt run well on it. if you are a windows user theres still a hope. A new Pwnage Tool for windows is coming out in the next couple days called sn0wbreeze.
