I recently bought a new iPhone 4 with no contract but locked to ATT. Before I open it, though, I want to make sure that it can be jailbroken and unlocked. Can I tell this from the serial number\\model number? If so, what numbers do I need?

unfortunately, that didn't work. I'm not sure that I did it right, though, because the unlock window ran through some text quickly and then closed. I never got a confirmation that it worked correctly. Let's keep each other posted. Please let me know if you find a solution, and I'll do the same.

I lost service on my iPhone yesterday and have been working nonstop trying to fix it. I've restored dozens of times to version 3.0.1 and used redsn0w to jailbreak\\activate and ultrasn0w to unlock. But still I get the same problem: "no service." When I turn my iPhone on, it will first say "you have a new voicemail," then show no bars... then say "Searching" and finally "No Service." Please, can anyone help me with this? I'd be happy to pay anyone who can help me solve this problem. kevindosi[at]gmail[dot]com

When I restore it, do I restore to 3.0 or 3.0.1? And do I need to create a custom ipsw first?

I've got a problem with my phone, hope someone can help. I'm using a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3G with software version 3.0 (7A341) and firmware 04.26.08. I woke up this morning and found that my phone had no service. After a while, an error message popped up: "iPhone cannot make or receive calls. Restore in iTunes." I just want to make sure I do this right. How can I restore to the latest version and maintain the unlock? Also, if it makes a difference, I have the latest version of iTunes and am using Snow Leopard. I'd really appreciate it if anyone out there could help me. Thanks in advance!

KABOBfest : To you, the new 'expert' on Iran

I'm an Iranian American, and I'm happy to see other Americans at least paying attention to Iran and taking a side. We (Americans) don't even know anything about our own politics, what do you expect? I don't think it's beneficial to reject popular support for a just cause in Iran, even if some of it is baseless. And as for doubting the cause, bipartisan political scientists have already released dozens of documents proving that the results as they stood were impossible. I think the main reason that average American citizens are getting involved is not based on a facade of political knowledge, but emotions and outrage. For one, many Americans want to see an improvement in relations with Iran. Regardless of whether or not they know that Mousavi has said that he wants to renew relations, people know that things aren't working now. Also, to see largely peaceful protests violently crushed goes against our idea of basic human rights and liberties. If someone doesn't know how to spell the President's name (which, by the way, is up for debate because there are multiple official transcriptions to the Roman alphabet), does that not give them the right to care for a fellow human being? Considering Iranian-American relations in the recent years, I think it's foolish to so rudely reject the long overdue support and sympathy of so many Americans.

Push isn't working on my unlocked iPhone 3g using 3.0. I open AIM and it says "connect to iTunes to use push notifications." I've enabled push in my settings. Apparently it keeps me logged in, but doesn't send me any notifications of messages. Same problem with other apps. Any help?

I got my 3g working on TMobile in the US with yellowsn0w 0.9.4. Have to put it in airplane mode for 1minute and then off of airplane mode each time I reboot, but who cares. Unfortunately, though, the TZones hack is no longer working. TZones worked fine when I was using 0.9.1. I reset network settings, removed the TZones hack and reinstalled it, but no good. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help, Dan. I followed your steps, and no longer get a "invalid sim" error. The phone makes that ding sound that it does when it receives a signal or gets a message, and no error message shows, but there's still no signal. My carrier does not show on the top and it shows zero bars. I'm using TMobile in the US. 3g is off. Edit: Oddly enough, it's suddenly working after turning the airplane mode off and on a few more times. Thanks so much!
