I know there has been some progress, but the last time a vote for legalization came around I was 17. I am 31 now. If I want to see this legal in my lifetime, I would rather just get it legalized first and work with the letter of the law afterwords.

The problem I have with voting no though is that I want to see progress for this. If we allow it to not pass, it is saying we don't want it legalized. If we vote yes, we can always modify it later. To top that off the officials would have to have probable cause to give someone a blood test. I have never been tested for illegal substances other than alcohol, and I wasn't driving. That is after being in three different car accidents, only one of which I was at fault.

Why incarcerate people for it if they aren't hurting anyone in the process? Why allow the government more freedom to take our freedoms away? If the crime does more damage from being a crime than the crime itself then it shouldn't be a crime.

Actually a study was done that found that someone who had smoked a joint actually drove better than someone sober, of course once they smoked more than that they drove worse, but the point is smaller doses does not inhibit you, it makes you more aware and, shall I say it, paranoid.

I can understand not caring about something that does not directly effect you. Even though you may not use marijuana, it is a matter of freedom for the people to pursue their happiness when it does not hurt others in the process. To have our government interfere with what this country was founded on is in itself an outrage. We the people own this country, not the politicians, not the police, and certainly not the corporations and churches that think they are corporations. Even if you do not care about this issue personally, I hope you will care about your freedom to make your own decisions without government interference.

I would never persecute you for wanting to live the the lifestyle you choose as long as you don't persecute me for mine. I don't care if I expire a few years earlier if can live fully in the time I have without hurting others in the process. What I do behind closed doors hurts no one but me. I may not be a christian, but I do consider myself to be a good person. I help others in need, I try to uplift the people I am around, I don't hurt others, and I do my best to make sure when my time comes I have no regrets. I do smoke marijuana occasionally, an eighth can last me 3 months, and would like to see it legalized due to the fact it does have less negative affects than the other legal alternatives and helps me to see other perspectives of things I wouldn't have noticed without it. If used properly it can be a great thing. as with anything, legal or not, it can of course be used irresponsibly, but if someone is going to do that at least it is better to use marijuana irresponsibly then most other things.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Washington state lawmakers pass gay marriage bill | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

I am sorry you took me to be quoting you. I merely considered your words as being hateful and full of contempt. I would hope that you don't hate someone just because they may like someone of the same sex. Personally, I could care less about "gay" marriage. I do however care very deeply about freedom when it doesn't hurt others, and I don't understand why it has taken as long as it has for people to realize who someone likes has no impact on me or anyone else. Just because there are people who are openly gay and get married to someone of the same sex doesn't mean that I will, or that my children will. If my children are open enough with themselves they will realize it doesn't matter who they like as long as they are happy. Personally I hope that it will help to start declassifying someone as straight or gay, because labels are counter-productive. Sure when you are in high school there are the skaters, jocks, preps, etc... but in the real world people shouldn't feel the need to be classified. Labels create barriers for what a person may be able to do or want to do. Say someone has said they are gay or have said they are straight, now they have to stick to that mold because that is what they have labeled themselves as. Say I said I couldn't do something well, I have just categorized myself as not being able to do something that I might have given enough practice. I know people say you are born a certain way, and this is true to a certain extent. Our bodies will naturally be aroused at sex, regardless of gender, due to the hardwired programming that we need to reproduce. If not, men who watch porn that was guy on girl wouldn't be able to be aroused due to there being a naked man, and woman wouldn't be able to get aroused due to another naked woman, but that just isn't how we are wired. We have however had social programming that tells us it is wrong and in turn we think it is wrong because that is what society has told us even though our bodies tell us otherwise and that can create a fear when our bodies are telling us yes but the brain says no so some people just fear it because it makes them uncomfortable at the thought.

The point is that for those who marry, the mortality rate was only higher in the first few years, which means that they had a tendency to not be as promiscuous after marriage. So that means they do not give a bad name to marriage. So in turn you have just proven the point that there is nothing wrong with allowing them to marry, and that it would be beneficial to our society because there would become less death if they had the opportunity to marry before contracting something.

Did you read the full article yourself? It even states that the presumption is that most of the deaths were probably caused by a pre-existing condition from before they got married. "The excess mortality is restricted to the first few years after a marriage, presumably reflecting preexisting illness at the time of marriage." So, what was that again?

Actually, it has also been proven through studies that lifelong marriages can increase life span. Also, if you take promiscuity into consideration, and the fact that if someone has no legal or moral ties to someone there is less to hold them back from being promiscuous then maybe if given the opportunity to be able to have that legal and moral tie the rate of sexually transmitted disease could go down. Of course it would have to be legalized in order to conduct such an experiment. Oh, and I only used the corporate industrial revolution as an example of how we are already not doing things naturally. Not as a way to justify marriage of the same sex. If I wanted to justify same sex marriage, I would just have to say that there has been no conclusive evidence to prove that it would hurt anyone to allow the marriage and due to a lack of evidence, or any, that it would harm society in any way shows that it should be allowed unless after it is allowed it is proven that it did do some kind of harm, which I strongly doubt it would. If anything it causes more harm by creating a stigma over the subject and causes more hate by not allowing it to happen.

could it be that it is mainly the promiscuity of men that lead to a higher rate of shortened life spans due to hiv/aids? Could it be, that there are more people who are straight who can be married and that they might actually take their vows seriously? And have you also considered that there has also been research done that proved that those in a lifelong marriage have a longer life span. Could it be that those who are against those who enjoy the same sex might not want them to live longer, that they might not want them to enjoy monogamy, and might not want them to have the legal benefits that come with marriage? If so, WHY?

I am actually about as conservative as they come when it comes to the financial responsibility of our government and upholding the second amendment, however the "Republicans" of this day and age seem to have forgotten about all of the other amendments (i.e. 4th amendment with the patriot act, separation of church and state with wanting to force feed christian beliefs down peoples throats, etc.), where the democrats remember those but forget that this country should consider getting out of debt before over extending itself, and for some reason want to get rid of guns so only the criminals have them. Maybe we as a people should create one major rule and leave it at that, "Don't intentionally hurt someone else without their permission", and lets call it a day. There is no need for anything else. If everyone followed that rule and were only punished for that we would clean up the prison system, clean up the legal books an make things less confusing for everyone.

Yes, I am sure if you are attempting to create life this is the case, after all it is kind of hard to procreate without an egg and some sperm to combine together. However, I am fairly certain our planet is very well populated and we don't have a problem finding plenty of people willing to help keep it populated, so making sure that we continue our species through reproduction and forcing people to do so should only be held for times after we have great plagues, huge worldwide natural disasters, and other events that take our species to the brink of endangerment. I am sure that when the bible said to make sure to multiply, it was referring to a time when there was a shortage of humans. As we grow and adapt to different times, it is only natural that our rules should grow and adapt with us.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Washington state lawmakers pass gay marriage bill | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

Original position: Decline in morals; Not natural because the body parts don't work together in order to allow for procreation. Argument: Definition of morals plural of mor·al (Noun) Noun: A lesson, esp. one concerning what is right or prudent, that can be derived from a story, a piece of information, or an experience. A person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do. So it appears that this individual, seven, is attempting to correlate their moral value system based on what is or is not natural, since my earlier comment was taken to be inaccurate by Seven due to them not mentioning religion (the story aspect of morals). If this is the case then our moral decline started in the industrial age when we started creating machines and buildings that are obviously unnatural, more so than sticking body parts into other body parts that they fit in. Therefore, the conclusion would be that our moral values, based on the assumption that it has to do with what is or is not natural, have already been compromised by the corporations, so why not let people, who have virtually no impact whatsoever on societies natural moral system ,be able to enjoy sharing their lives together the same way a couple who can procreate can do?
