<title>Cyberbrethren : Two Lutheran Study Bibles? A Cautionary Tale</title>
<link>http://cyberbrethren.com/2009/04/22/two-lutheran-bibles/#IDComment20558555</link>
<description>Now I know that I made the right decision last November to leave the ELCA for LCMS. The &amp;quot;study Bible&amp;quot; from ELCA, supposedly a resource for the new biblical literacy initiative, is actually more of a stunning witness to the vicegrip that higher criticism, universalism, the gay rights agenda, and other liberal distortions of confessional Lutheranism has on the ELCA leadership. I hope that Word Alone, FOCL, and other &amp;quot;conservative&amp;quot; movements within ELCA promote the CPH Lutheran Study Bible as THE Lutheran Study Bible. The study notes from CPH are so much more detailed, the exegesis much more thorough, with a strong emphasis on &amp;quot;scripture interprets scripture&amp;quot;, and with numerous references to Luther&amp;#039;s writings and the Book of Concord. I think that my NRSV Oxford Study Bible is more respectful of historic doctrine than this rather lame ELCA effort. As soon as funds permit, I&amp;#039;m getting the real study bible from Concordia, and we have order forms in our church offices. </description>
