Big Government : Mr. Beck, Meet Mr. Chambers

In fact, everything in Rand's foundational philosophy is contradictory to Christianity. He views are basically Nietzschean. She comes out with the correct position on free enterprise, but she arrives there on a path that is inherently non-Christian. So while I can be grateful that Randians support capitalism, I cannot support the reasoning that takes them there.

Yet you just found fault in me. ;-) Believe me, if I had a pipeline to Mr. Beck, I would have only been too glad to speak with him about this. Surely you realize that my post was courteous to him. I admire what he is doing. This was not a "hit" job. My concern is that he unwittingly carried out a hit on Chambers, one that he didn't deserve. My hope is that someone on his staff, or Glenn himself, will read this and want to correct that error.

Are you sure you saw the June 15th program? I did look at it online and he ridiculed Chambers for the review of Atlas Shrugged. To me, it indicated he has no idea who Chambers was.

In my opinion, Witness is the best book of the twentieth century. I encourage everyone to read it. I teach a course on it and students love it.

I agree. I don't count Beck's disparagement of Chambers against him because I don't believe he has all the information on him. One of his staffers probably gave him the quote without any context. It would be good, though, as I said at the end of the piece, if he would do a program on Chambers and the message he gave to America. It is still relevant.

Big Government : Paine vs. Jay: Patriots in Contrast

If you want an older view, his son William wrote a biography of the father. It is available on Amazon, I noticed. A more modern historian who did a lot of work on Jay was Richard B. Morris, so check out his books. There are a couple of new ones out that I haven't read yet, so I can't give an opinion on them.

David, to post on the site you have to be asked by the editors to be a regular contributor. Also, posts are to be kept as close as possible to no more than 800 words. Under those conditions, I thought it best to showcase the essentials of our dialogue. I did my best to highlight your main points. It was important to show my responses; without them, some of your comments would have been in a vacuum. I'm sorry you are disappointed with the result, but it was a good faith effort on my part. I hope you understand.
