Ready for Brawl? Magic the Gathering (Arena) (And personal stuff in the rot13 reply, TW: Depression, Anxiety, Mental Health, Parental Health) Good afternoon everyone, been a while since I've been even reasonably active on these forums, which is a great shame but really fell off the wagon when Mark finished Trek. I'm back to share something I'm very proud of having worked on, a real passion project that I'm hopeful is the start of something positive. I've written a set of guest articles for a Magic the Gathering community site. In them, I present all manner of decks for the Brawl format (think Commander, if you're familiar with that, but for Standard), just added to Arena to hopefully inspire or supply players, especially those new to the format entirely a good place to start. If it helps calm the skepticism, as far as I'm aware (the article suggests it too), HBO is only distributing His Dark Materials. It's been in production by the BBC for a good while now, and this is to be the first of three 8 episode seasons. So, probably a little restraint at how the effects might look, but it's also got a lot of old (old new?) Doctor Who people on it so production wise it should be solid. Edit: Blegh, says right there HBO also come in as a co-producer, which I read about and forgot apparently. Still, I think they came on later into the project, so ideally the foundational work is strong.

The official launch is still a little ways out, tentatively scheduled for late this year, but most people think we'll be moving to open beta soonish. I understand that sentiment though, it's easy to go "one more draft, one more draft". Today during the stress test they're half cost too, so I'm going to jam as many as I have the free-earned currency for. Edit: Well that was the plan, servers went down as soon as the stress test started. Which is the point, and there's an undisclosed reward for doing so (hopefully a rescheduled re-run of the stress test events, they're super good value), but wanted to be drafting so bad right now. xD

Y'know, I'm not 100% on whether mission items help when dispatching. I imagine using something that buffs an element with someone who uses that element could help along with the stat boosting ones, but I don't know if it would be as crucial as jobs, equipment and the like. It certainly sank it's claws in deep for me. With a lot of RPGs (both western and eastern) moving away from turn-based combat to more active systems I've found the strategy sub-genre to be my go to. I enjoy playing at my own pace but more importantly relaxing into a game of a night, and really absorbing myself into the experience. I really treasure FFX for similar reasons.

It was so cool to experience this playthrough with you! FFT wasn't released over here until the PSP version so FFTA was my personal first exploration of Ivalice and the SRPG genre in general and I love it dearly. I still have my (second*) original cartridge and a system to theoretically play it on if I sorted through old chargers and stuff with a complete save file. I was going to mention it when you last brought up mission items but waited as you seemed close to the wrap up post: mission items are only consumed permanently if the mission requires them. Otherwise you're free to use them for their bonuses on other missions, though they are 'locked' to that mission until you clear it. Just something to keep in mind if/when you do revisit FFTA. * I actually had a second copy bought for me for my birthday by my best friend after my first copy had gotten lost. It was really sweet and thinking on it now, quite apropos given the themes of the game itself. He and his brother also played the game, so we were actually able to do the link up stuff... how we ever thought link cables were viable is beyond me though.

[Non-rhetorical question: is there a way to tell which missions I take are “story” missions? Like, do the missions that will require Marche have a special icon when I pick them up?] There's no icon as such but story missions are not able to be cancelled and have no time limit for their completion. They should also always appear as the top mission at the pub after the previous story mission is done iirc.

Had intended to record OW placements too but mic issues meant I didn't want to mess about with recording too, and as it turns out the games were generally very bad, and I imagine as much fun to watch as to play (i.e. very little; 2-8 for Plat 2682). I really do want to do audio commentary during these videos as I move into the season proper (last 5 placements to be uploaded over the next day) but even within this welcoming sphere of peoples I find it difficult. At the very least, like before, I will have text commentary, which is easier to manage when I can select the interesting (not just victorious) games (first and last of season, all promotion and demotion matches minimum).

As bad as an unhelpful ally Junkrat can be in Overwatch, it feels ten times worse in Heroes of the Storm. ;) As for playing Junkrat, he's not a hero I generally play outside of Mystery Heroes, but some helpful tips: 1) Stay at range until you want to go in for the last blow. Something I've not learnt to do properly (much like Lucio wall riding) is finding the angles where you can damage people without them seeing you (Seagull is great to watch for these, he hunts the perfect angles, and since these changes, plays Junkrat fairly often). 2) Especially with the change to his mines semi-recently giving you the ability to hold one in reserve for emergencies, if you feel threatened, if you're being flanked, throw a mine straight forward about or just below head height and detonate it immediately. You'll be knocked back and if you get the enemy too they'll go far far away. You can even do this twice if needed and both charges are available, very few things should keep up with you safely especially if you're in a relatively open area. 3) Less survival, more to prevent the first thing when it's you playing the Junkrat: Be intentional with your mines.* Throwing them out without expecting a reasonable chance of a kill will likely, as you've noticed, reduce your overall team's chances of getting said kill. Aiming this well just takes practice. * This so much in HotS, some people just use an ability because it's off of cooldown, and while basic attacks aren't really affected or requiring of OW aim, there's so many feel bad skill shots with careless Junks around. =/

The new Junkrat ult speed has made avoiding it very difficult, but a true support main knows the value of a sacrifice, and that instinct when you hear a tyre start up is to split.
