SmartBlogs by SmartBrief : Should "likes" be the focus of your Facebook strategy?

Thanks for writing Healy. You're right -- campaign codes that track off-network actions are a much better metric than any of the default FB actions people get hung up on.

Hi Mark, Thanks for writing. The point I'm trying to make, somewhat clumsily, is that most organizations are using FB to try to drive actions that take place on other platforms. So it doesn't make sense to build your campaign only around in-network actions. Likes and reach and so on can definitely be useful and they're certainly easy to track, but stopping their is a mistake, but because you can accomplish every last in-network goal you've set for yourself and still not have gotten your fans to take the one action you really wanted them to take -- buying, donating, whatever. FB actions are important, but they're just a means to an end -- and that's why they shouldn't be the focus on your strategy. -- Jesse

Hey Jessica, We included it because the terms of use say you can download low-res photos for non-commercial purposes. That doesn't fit all blogs, but we thought some readers might find it useful. I've added a sentence a clarification note to make this more explicit. Thanks for noting that.
Rick, You've actually gotten props on this very blog for the handling of fallout of that indecent: http://smartblogs.com/socialmedia/2012/01/25/what... That said, I wasn't at the event on Wednesday, but from Heidi's report it sounds like they were questioning the wisdom of the campaign in the first place. How does a 2% negative reaction compare to the average response to a McDonald's campaign?
