Why did I eat the second piece of chocolate? I ate it because I ate the first piece. A lot of people didn’t really give a shit and wanted to eat the second piece but were feeling a little hesitant to do it. I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t eat that piece of chocolate in class because there is no way that I’m going to stop eating chocolate after watching that video. If the largest cocoa production in the world is done using modern day slaves, what can we do about it? The whole fucking world gets the same chocolate. Sam mentioned in class how the stuff we buy at wal mart is made by slaves. All I have to say is that I have to watch my pocket too. I can’t be buying expensive stuff if I can’t afford it. The whole world is doing it. The only way to stop the chocolate problem would be that the government should ban imports from those countries and focus on fair trade goods. That way, people are obligated to buy fair trade goods and not the ones made by slaves. Sam also mentioned that cell phone parts are made by slaves so does he want us to stop using cell phones too? I mean we should be a little realistic. I understand the fact that Sam showed the video in class just to make a lot of us realize that slavery still exists in the world but when then he tells us to basically stop eating chocolate, stop using cell phones and even stop buying cheap clothes from wal mart, I feel that he is going overboard with it. He should leave it to us to realize and choose between right and wrong or something which is practical or not. The girl who just asked that question should have thought of it before she posted it. I mean cocoa is not the only salve made product. According to Sam, every fucking thing is made by slaves so that means that the girl is being a hypocrite. I just wanted to know if you’re going to stop using your cell phone or stop shopping at wal mart after watching the video. What would happen if we stop buying slave made products? The world economy would get fucked more than how it is already. People can’t afford to buy goods which are not produced by slaves. The things that we need in our everyday lives are probably made by slaves so what is the alternative to that? I just feel that it is a good thing that Sam talks about all this in lecture but he should not push it as much.
I feel that the quality of healthcare is lowered because of the employment due to affirmative action. I feel that it should solely based on qualifications and achievements of a candidate. I agree with the fact that affirmative action doesnt make a lot of difference at the undergraduate level but in case of medical schools and hospitals, it can have a negative effect. I am pretty sure that a good chunk of people who are hired due to affirmative action are under qualified and there are a lot of people better qualified than them. I also feel that people who know that they can get jobs because of affirmative action take full advantage of it. But minorities and people who are affected by affirmative action were born like that. This goes along with nepotism. If someones uncle happens to be working at Wall Street and can get him/her a job then thats good for them. They didnt do anything to make that happen. It just worked out that way. The people hired due to nepotism are probably under qualified than the people who could have actually gotten the job based on qualifications. I believe that it is very important for employers or admission officers to treat each candidate equally but I guess it doesnt work that way. I feel that affirmative action needs to be modified and improved so that qualified people actually get the job they want. I dont think that can be done with nepotism. People always have connections and take advantage of whoever they now. I got an internship freshmen year just because my dad knew the partner of the firm I worked at. I got the position and obviously I wouldnt turn it down because I know that getting an internship right after my freshmen year is very beneficial for my career. I feel that nothing can be done about affirmative action. If minorities or women get jobs, I guess that good for them and we have to learn how to deal with it. With nepotism, companies should have a rule or something which states that the interviewers shouldnt be allowed to know who the candidate knows or who the candidate is related to. But in the end, if someone at the top level at a company wants their relative to get the internship, they will get them an internship. The affirmative action problem with the hospitals can have a very negative effect on the hospitals reputation because if they hire someone under qualified and something goes wrong during a procedure, the hospital will be reliable for the errors. In conclusion, both affirmative action and nepotism are both very unreasonable but I feel that nepotism is more widespread and evident than affirmative action.
This article is pretty outrageous but I’m not surprised at what happened. I feel that they shouldn’t have hired her in the first place. One of my friend works at Abercrombie and Fitch and he was telling me about the look policy the employees have to follow. I believe that it is okay for a company to have a look policy but in this case they shouldn’t have hired the woman if she was wearing a scarf. They should have told her that she doesn’t fit the look policy therefore they cannot be given the job. A lawsuit could be filed then too. I guess they hired her to be on the safe side but surprisingly they fired her for the scarf. They even gave her a color code for her head scarf which she followed up with but they still fired her for the fact that she wears a scarf. This is pretty ridiculous. What is even more surprising that corporate fired her and not the local manager. It is pretty weird that the district manager came in to fire her. This reminds me of a similar discriminating case against Disney. A Sikh man was rejected for a job at Disney because “he did not fit the Disney image” and he had “a look problem”. Sikhism is a religion started in India and requires its followers to wear turbans. So I guess it is a similar case. The woman was fired for wearing a scarf and this man wasn’t even given a job at Disney just because he was following his religion, something he has lived with all his life. It is also hypocritical for Disney to make millions of dollars promoting cartoon characters that wear turbans and simultaneously reject the right of an employee to wear a turban in accordance with his faith. Abercrombie probably wants to maximize its profits by having their employees follow a specific look policy but at the same time people of different races and religions shop at Abercrombie. After looking at this case, they are obviously going to lose customers because they have clearly violated the rights to freedom of religion. I just believe that everyone should have to right to follow any faith they want and shouldn’t be discriminated against. It is pretty messed up to see what the world is coming to. Clearly huge companies like Abercrombie and Disney are taking a step backwards in our society.
This is pure bullshit. On what basis can you say that all theme parties are racist and are hosted by white people only? I’m brown and I love theme parties. Last week I went to golf pros and tiger hoes theme party. People host theme parties for a change because they are probably bored with regular parties every week which becomes repetitive. Some people might consider pimps and hoes a racist theme but it is just a stereotype like any other. Pimps and hoes is a stereotype set my black rappers and actors like Snoop Dogg. This doesn’t mean that it is racist towards black people. There are high school stereotype parties which make fun of white preps and frat boys. I mean theme parties are just another reason for people to get drunk and have fun. I don’t think anyone has ever thought of a theme party of being racist or anything of that sort. Maybe people wear costumes on Halloween that are racist but that is a totally different thing and cannot be compared to theme parties. Theme parties on any given weekend are the same as st. pattys day parties or even Christmas parties. I have never been under the impression that certain theme parties are racist and I have never even thought of any theme parties to be discriminating. I just want to know some theme parties which are racist, I can’t think of any party which can be considered racist unless there are parties which are actually meant to be racist. I mean some parties like golf pros and tennis hoes parties can be degrading to women but I don’t think women think of it to be sexist, same way “gangsta” parties aren’t racist unless someone tries too hard to think of it to be racist. I want to know if the girl who posted the video has ever had an experience with racist theme parties and I want an example of a theme party which is racist. A lot of people mentioned the Jersey Shore theme party. Some Italians might find it offensive because the theme is focused on a certain race of people and not a generalized theme. The girl said that most theme parties are hosted by white people and are generated to black people. That might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I went to a theme party a few weeks ago and the host was one of my black friends. The theme of the party was jersey shore which some people consider to be racist. I just want to know what the girl has to say about this. As I said before, themes are just an excuse to get belligerent and have fun.
A $7000 sex doll is ridiculous. I mean why would anyone buy a sex toy which costs more than a hooker? I mean people who are really desperate can go to a brothel or something and hire a prostitute for the night. I think that sex addicts instead of regular single guys should buy this toy; perhaps Tiger Woods could get a couple of those and have a lot of fun. Things like this shouldn’t be taken over by technology. It is so sad to see human beings trying to fulfill their sexual needs with the help of a doll. Honestly, this is an awesome invention and the guy has already sold it to 4000 men and has become a millionaire overnight. I also agree with the fact the men and women have different sexual desires but again a $7000 doll is way too much. If a married man spends $7000 bucks on that doll, he is absolutely stupid. I would rather spend $7000 bucks on my wife instead of buying that doll. I also believe that building a relationship with the opposite sex is so important. It is one of the most important aspects in life. There is no way you can build a relationship with a doll. I mean what the hell where the 4000 men thinking when they bought this. They are just going to have sex with the doll all day; what about going out for dinner or maybe on a vacation. You can’t take the doll with you. A shy person will become more introverted after buying this doll. This doll is probably going to ruin a lot of lives. Someone mentioned above that women have more sex toys available to them to satisfy their sexual needs. I agree with this statement but the toys are along the lines of a dildo or something of that sort and not an actual sex doll with a penis. You can’t compare apples to oranges; I mean a vibrator is nothing like a sex doll. The fleshlight is something that could be compared to vibrators. The inner part of the fleshlight comes in different shapes like a mouth or a vagina. A freaking sex doll named Roxxxy is pathetic. Think about the rest of the world reading about this doll and how bad the reputation of American would get. People from other parts of the world would be like WTF is wrong with these people. Hines is a genius but I wish he used his brain to come up with a better invention that would actually help our society and not make it worse. As I mentioned above, this doll is going to make those shy, awkward people even more introverted and shy.
To be honest, I love Kanye West’s music and Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time! But what Kanye did at the VMA was ridiculous. I mean how can someone have the guts to go up on stage and insult an award winner? He said he was drunk when he did that but I don’t know why he actually did that. Being drunk isn’t an excuse for anything. He got drunk at the VMA which was being watched by millions of viewers. Anyway, I don’t think that Kanye was being racist. He had no reason to be racist. He probably just liked Beyonce more than Taylor Swift. The people who dropped the n-bombs in their tweets had no reason to do that either. Clearly they were pissed about Kanye being “racist” and didn’t realize that they were the ones being racist. I am just curious about what people would have said about a white person if he had done what Kanye West did. I find hypocrisy really funny. First, all those white people go haywire about Kanye’s comments and him being racist and then proceed to write tweets with the word “nigger” in it. I just don’t understand the logic behind it. What are they getting out of this? I think that they just want attention. I don’t know how expressing their anger on the internet makes them feel better. People are just going to read the racist comments and talk shit about then just like all the people who replied to this blog post. I believe that whatever Kanye did was unacceptable and uncalled for but on the other hand, all the racist comments on twitter were uncalled for too. At least Kanye said he was drunk, I wonder what all the racist bloggers have to say about their actions. People should always think before saying or doing anything so they can explain their actions later. In this case, the bloggers are straight out racist. I bet some of the racist bloggers out there might not even know what happened and probably tweeted about Kanye. This shows us that racism is still a huge issue in today’s society. The majority of the racists out there are not openly racists but a closet racist is what I like to call them. I am brown and I have been discriminated against here at Penn State. Not directly discriminated but I have gotten that vibe from several people who do not want to be affiliated with me. Racism is something that will exist in this world forever no matter what. People just follow the beliefs of their family and their culture. If they are part of a racist culture or family, they will continue to be that way.
I completely disagree with the French government on trying to impose a ban on burqas. A burqa is not only a religious symbol but also a cultural symbol. It is a part of the lives of Muslim women. I believe that women or in fact everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want. I mean is anybody being harmed by the burqa? The government should not interfere in personal lives and peoples’ faith. The citizens of a country should be allowed to believe in whatever they want without any discrimination. I am a Sikh and I wear a turban. Turbans are banned in French state schools. Young Sikh students weren’t given admission in schools because they wear turbans. Sikh’s are required to wear turbans according to their religion because Sikhs are prohibited to cut their hair. French president Sarkozy stood right next to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is a Sikh and said “Sir, we respect Sikhs. We respect their customs, their traditions. They are most welcome to France.” “But sir, we have rules, rules concerning the neutrality of civil servants, rules concerning secularism, and these rules don't apply only to Sikhs, they apply to Muslims or others. They apply to all on the territory of the French Republic." I feel that this ridiculous. I don’t know if there are other countries in the world that prohibit religious articles. This comment by Sarkozy basically meant that Sikhs, Muslims or people of any other faiths have no option but to live by the rules set by the French government. I honestly do not understand the argument behind banning the burqa and how anyone is actually being affected by the burqa. I’m sure a lot of French people probably look down to Muslim women wearing a burqa but at the end of the day, it’s their choice to wear it or not. Even after being oppressed by the government and being looked down upon, these brave women still continue to follow their beliefs and their traditions regardless of what other people have to say. I lived in Kuwait for 18 years and the majority of my friends are Muslim. I have learned that the burqa is an article of prestige and respect. I am still trying to make sense of the French argument and what will actually be the benefit of banning the burqa or any other religious article. The only people who will be affected by this law are the people whose rights are being taken away.
I am from India and I totally understand the idea behind white means beautiful. There are various creams and lotions you get in India which are meant to make one’s skin lighter. I see advertisements which show before and after effects of a so called whitening cream. I guess it is just the culture in some parts of the world which explains the white to black or black to white situation. It would be amusing to see the reactions of the people in India if they are told how white people use creams and lotions to make their skin darker. I am brown and I like it that way. I feel that God has gifted everyone with physical features which differentiates them from others and makes them unique. People should learn to appreciate their skin color and they should also not care about how dark or white their skin is. My parents have always taught me to live with what you have and not bother about what you don’t have. But it is the human nature of wanting something you don’t have. Skin color is definitely one thing that I have never thought of when I compare myself to people around me. Same thing goes with hair for women. They always get highlights and change their hair color every now and then. What impels then to change their hair or skin color is when they look at other people around them and want to be like them. I believe that people look the best with their original features rather than changing them. Changing ones hair color does not necessarily make them look better. As you can see that Sammy Sosa definitely looks better with is original skin color. There are other issues in this world people should worry about rather than worrying about their skin color. A lot of people from India who come to America might want to turn white because they might think that it is easier to get around when you’re white. Coming to Penn State, I had the same thing in my mind. I thought that I would only have brown friends because white people won’t hangout with me. That conception was completely wrong. The majority of my friends on campus are white. I believe that what matters is your personality and what type of human being you are. I understand how some people might feel insecure about themselves based on their skin color. I’m pretty sure if white people go to parts of the world where everyone is black or brown, they will feel insecure. It is the human nature of trying to become like someone around you. So problems are still going to exist if everyone on this planet is black, brown or white.
