Gary, thanks for the feedback and kind words! The video was a little long but I wanted to cover everything. My longest on this blog was 30mins however! (Never again) Youtube is GREAT to use for benefitting from the viral element it can provide, its also good as a free and very easy option for say video on your blog. The negatives however are: 1) You cannot easily remove the "recommended videos" that appear after your video has played (there is a setting but alot of people dont know about it) This can obviously generate "traffic leaks" from your sites. 2) The Youtube player is NOT the best player in the world and doesnt work well with some resolutions which others work better with. 3) There is a perceived lack of professionalism when people see the YouTube branding. 4) You would NOT want to use Youtube for a product or sales video player, there are quite a few reasons, firstly, its obviously not particularly professional, secondly, it may also show related videos after which could even be competing products! Finally, agian you have less control over how the video and the player looks and Youtube terms of service actually forbid using it for this sort of thing so technically you should never do it anyway. (i.e. use it for a sales page) Youtube do not take kindly to HUGE traffic surges brought to your site from say a big launch or promotion and this can get your account into trouble, Something like Amazon S3 can handle this perfectly however. To put it in context, I have done ALOT of video stuff lately on multiple sites both for myself and clients, all using my Amazon S3 account and my latest bill from Amazon was for a whopping $1.88 This gives me state of the art, industry leading video serving technology with neat features like automatically selecting quality by the viewers internet connection speed, auto selecting a server closest to the viewer so the video loads even faster and all the other benefits using an infrustructure like Amazon's S3 system gives you. Not bad huh! I recommend using both, use YouTube for the viral element and use something like Amazon S3 for your blog and personal websites.

Gary, thanks for the comment, it took me AGES to finally get around to using it. I heard about it a LONG time ago and just like oyu procrastinated for ages and just stuck with the Twitter website because it was what I knew.. Finding out you could setup groups however tipped me over the edge as the noise was just getting too much!

Hey Iain, thanks for the comment on the post and for taking the time to stop by. I agree, there is SO much spam on Twitter, this was completely stopping me from enjoying it, I only have around 1,300 followers which is kind of deliberate up until now. I wanted a small but focused and responsive following and that seems to have worked well. I get around 50 clicks when I sent a link out and alot of RT's etc. (I think I had over 120 unique clicks on one link in one tweet before so I was pretty happy with that!) Now I have found this technique to "filter" through the noise on Twitter I will be growing my following because I can still focus on the people I want to focus on as my follower amount grows so its a great tool because of that. I agree with the social proof point you bring up, that is very true. I still believe quality is more important that quantity but both is even better! (And the social proof point is certainly a valid one) SPeak soon Iain!
