Not sure I agree here Dan. I don't think it's an accident that there are 200+ venture capital firms on Sand Hill Road (which is on adjacent to Stanford) -- nor is it an accident that there are many venture capital firms in Cambridge. And we've had many successful exits by companies founded by young founders. Indeed, companies like Invite Media, Mint.com, MyYearbook and Aster Data were all founded by students (or recent graduates) -- and the exited for a combined value of over half a billion dollars.

We've also found that being located in/near the city often makes it easier for companies to recruit technical talent. And in this tough recruiting market, that is extremely important. For example, in San Francisco, it's not surprising that companies like Zynga and Twitter chose to locate in the city rather than in the peninsula.

While First Round Capital has funded (and will continue to fund) entrepreneurs of all ages and experience levels, I disagree with your black and white assessment that the suburbs are the ideal place to locate a technology venture firm.

The company has put in some constraints to deal with your concerns. For example, in years when the student earns less than $30,000, they pay nothing. And the profit upside tops out at a 14.99 percent annual return to backers -- no matter how much the student earns...

No, there is no "participation" clause -- and CEO's are free to decline to participate.

I'm really happy with Typepad. It's worked reliably for 5 years -- and it was fairly easy to upgrade the design...
